Okay... Lately, I have been working on the Takeru/Iori one-shot, because I would really like to finish that one and post it. I'm curious to know what people are going to think about it. I've got a few more things to do with this one, and then it'll be done.
Here's hoping people will like it, too. I actually think it's kinda good.
Anyway, other than that, nothing's happening over here. Still can't watch my DVDs. Still lots of fire around, although a lot of the evacuated people have been allowed to go back to their homes. It smells smoky here in the city, but apparently the fire that's near us is 70% contained.
That's definitely a good thing. Stupid forest fires...
If there's no reply from that place with the codes by the time I go away for the weekend, I'm going looking for a region-free DVD player in Chinatown.

Unfortunately, not all dvd players have simple region-free codes. I know my old one had a region-free hack, but it involved cutting some wires and resoldering. I ended up just getting a region-free one, since I knew I'd inevitably break the poor player otherwise.

I know it might not be easy... but it's a lot cheaper, so I figured I'd give it a shot before going out and buying a whole new player. Of course, if it involves resoldering anything, I'll be getting the new player.
Do you know of any brands with simple region-free codes? Becuase if mine's tricky, maybe I should buy one that'll be simple. ^^; Might make more sense.

I read through the reviews for the dvd player (http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDnameid=1121&Search=Search&more=0#comments) and at least two of the reviewers said that the Aiwa remote control hack worked for them. Granted, it *would* mean buying another remote control, on the off chance that it worked, but if the remote is cheap and easily gotten (I have no idea of where to find and how much an Aiwa remote control costs), it's probably worth an experiment.
Otherwise, most of the Apex players are region-free. I've heard they're not high on quality, though. My region-free player is a Pioneer dvd player (if you're interested, I can check the model number when I get home) with a mod chip installed by the helpful folks in Japantown ^_^ It's a really nice player (even if ADV's discs always seem to crash on it - I blame ADV's poor authoring), but I think it ran somewhere in the $250US range. Probably more than you'd want to spend on a dvd player just so that you can play region-free discs - in my case, it was so that I could play burned VCDs and SVCDs are well, for AMV capturing purposes.
Anyhow, if you should decide to go region-free dvd player shopping, make certain you take your region 2 dvds with you. And make them test a region 1 dvd as well, so that you know it can play the majority of your dvd collection ^_^;; If you're interested in checking out specs and reviews of dvd players before you go buying, take a look at http://www.dvdrhelp.com/ They have a great search engine, and a lot of useful information about region hacks. Good luck!

But thank you for helping me out. I'll try and find a DVD player I can use... hopefully I'll get one some day. ^_^
