I watched the first eight episodes of Hikaru no Go with Jeremy last night. Actually, I'm kind of surprised that he honestly says he likes it - I figured he'd either dislike it outright or try and be diplomatic and say it's "okay".

Ah well. That's cool. I will make him watch the whole series, then!

Oh yeah, and his analysis on the slash situation was: No slash potential whatsoever. Unless you count the main character and his stalker.

He also said that there were some sentences that would sound really wrong if taken out of context. But they were said by Akira, to Hikaru, so... yeah. We've all been there.

Oh, and

ladycosmos, he shares your opinion and doesn't like Touya either. Thinks he's a selfish prick, actually.

I know Akira is selfish. I suppose that's why I can like him, because I can relate. I'm pretty selfish, too. I'm just not as focussed as he is. And it actually does sort of bother me when people don't like me, whereas he doesn't seem to care much.

Ah well.

I work tonight. Bleh. And then the exam is tomorrow... eek. I have to get studying.

I like to call Akira 'goal-oriented'. *cough* He's oblivious to everything that doesn't have to do with is goals. And, yeah, that is selfish. I don't think he realizes, however, how much he is disliked by certain people (yes, I'm talking to you, Waya!). If he did, I do think he might be a little shocked.

One of my friends that I got into watching HnG disliked Akira up until the very end, so it's not an uncommon opinion, I guess. But from episode 60-something onward she warmed up to him.

I don't think it's a matter of whether or not he knows; I think he honestly doesn't care to find out. Akira doesn't consider people like Waya to be important in the grand scheme of things; I'd imagine that he only has a vague idea of who Waya is in the first place. He probably *does* know that Waya dislikes him, considering the resentment he's treated him to pretty much every time they see each other. I honestly don't think it matters to him.

Actually, I would think Akira would be used to being disliked, considering his position. People would resent him, be jealous, or just dislike his attitude. And I think that might be a major reason for his indifference.

I see it like with Hon Su-Young: people convince themselves that they don't care in order to avoid disappointment. I don't think it's conceit that makes Akira distance himself from most others to the point where he doesn't really care about their existence. He probably does it unintentionally, even.

That's just an opinion, though. ^_^;; I could be totally off.

He's hot, and I can ignore many character flaws for hotness...besides, in the beginning, at 12 yrs old, kids are supposed to be selfish. ^_^ Its in the genetic code...*purrs* But he's a sexy selfish brat.
