Yesterday didn't really treat me that well as far as being able to watch episode 51. I intended to watch it during my break between classes, but then I realized I still had reading to do before the class after that break, so... I sacrificed. Then I had intended to watch it after my afternoon class, but when I got home my sister was watching TV.
I refuse to watch on the computer with the TV on behind me. Not the last episode of FMA. No way.
Anyway, though, the TV was on from that point until I gave up and went to bed. But I did manage to get some of my homework for this week done. I have most of my program finished and my paper nice and outlined.
Excellent.
But, since I was thwarted yesterday, I made it a point to watch the episode first thing this morning. So now I have seen it.
First thing I want to say is that I wasn't quite sure what to think after seeing it. I wasn't disappointed. I wasn't squeeing with glee. I was... thoughtful, really. It was an interesting ending.
Not bad... Not AWESOME, but not bad.
Restored Al makes it all good. Al is restored! I can die happy. Well... hopefully not... But we have a restored Al, and I am pleased with this. Even if he is still ten years old. I didn't really see a way around that, though, honestly... Unless his body aged while it was behind the gate. Which wouldn't really make sense.
The fact that he has no memory of the four years he was in a suit of armor is interesting. Although it makes *him* generally happier, I'll bet. No period of adjustment and everything. Ooh... yay! I'm so happy for Al! I didn't think he'd get restored at all.
One thing that was REALLY awesome: Dante's fate. YES. Gluttony EATS her! HAH! Take that, bitch! That was the greatest. I would love this episode JUST for that scene. I'm still cackling with glee over it.
Envy's fate was kinda... meh. I hope he suffered. That's all I'll say.
The fact that Wrath is still around ANNOYS THE HELL out of me! He should've died, damnitall! But, given that he was the only one on my list who *didn't* die... I guess I can't complain. Bah.
The Roy/Riza shipping was kind of lame. I'm kind of indifferent to that pairing, although I figured if they made any pairing canon, it'd be that one. But isn't he still a big womanizer? He suddenly changes... wtf? Or maybe she's just taking care of him. Whatever. I just hope he's in the movie, even though it seems he's a regular person now instead of a military man.
The thing with London was... interesting. That's the part I'm not sure how I feel about. Ed and his daddy, studying side by side... Well, until he leaves to meet Dracula. I'm guessing Ed will find a way to get back to the world of his birth, if only because the movie would be pretty boring if he didn't.
Question: does Ed still have his auto-mail? Or was that just a tricky little thing they did at the ending?
All in all, though, pretty good. I'm satisfied. They haven't wrecked the series. So it's all good.

I think Al did grow because, what I got from it with my limited comprehension, was that the gate was just like a warptunnel to another dimension ~_~ Which I found incredibly lame. I also found it lame that DAnte could control it.
I can't figure out what happened to Dante and Gluttony cause they both disappeared. So I guess they killed each other.
The whole Envy thing annoys the hell out of me ~_~ It seemed like they were just trying to get rid of all the sins and were like "Hmmm..let's just make him disappear somehow."
For the Roy/Riza thing, I felt that they really killed some of her characterization just to set them up as a pair. I'm also rather annoyed that they didn't really do anything with Havoc who was also really close and important to Roy ~_~ In general, I think they really screwed up there. I used to love the military interaction and now I'm just going "Dammit ~_~"
Ed does still have his automail because we saw it while he was packing/trying to pack.
I'm upset with the ending. I was expecting something more and they really let me down.

I guess it's a matter of opinion.

Yeah, I guess it is. I guess it's also that, ya know, for months, I've been chatting with people, talking to them, thinking about the series and just how they could possibly wrap up a plot like that nicely....and this was just..a cop-out to me. It seemed way too simple and fast for a story that took so long to build up and had so many intricate plots twists.
I mean...Bwuah!...What was with getting rid of Envy like that?! There should have been something more to it. I mean, he plays one of the more important roles in the series and he just like...nothing happened! Greed's death was a lot more of what I was looking for with the sins than what we got.
*shrugs* I dunno. Maybe I overspeculated or something. Plus, you already know I'm upset with the fact that Hohenheim was not evil ~_~ Maybe the manga will give us that at least and not even bring Dante up.

I think having expectations at all screws you over. You were expecting things, and it didn't give them to you. I wasn't expecting anything, and somehow it gave me a satisfying ending.
I agree that it might've been a bit rushed, but as for simple - there's a fine line. If they'd made it too convoluted, *I* would've hated it, and then I'd be complaining in my journal, I think. ^^; I thought it was a neat wrap-up.
Except for the Roy/Riza. Dude, that's on crack. Seems like it came out of nowhere. >_< Maybe if I were a huge military fan rather than being fixated on Ed and Al, I might've been more annoyed by that, too.
I'm sad the series is over, so I'm also taking comfort in the fact that the manga is still ongoing. And in a completely different direction, so it's like an AU. I like that.
I also seriously doubt there's a Dante in the manga. ;) So it's all good.
