Ugh, these speakers are terrible... Bleh.

I'm not as nervous as the icon would imply! I just wanted to use it, seeing as how I have an exam and all today... It seemed appropriate.

Heh. I studied last night, but not much during the day yesterday. I was procrastinating the whole time, pretty much. And we didn't have the computer, so I had to find other things to do to put off studying.

I watched those episodes of Yu Yu Hakusho - it was more or less what I'd expected, but without the slash. Which is no fun at all. I thought this series was supposed to be slashy. Man! I mean, the plot wasn't great, the characters were okay at best, and the animation was kinda crappy.

I did like the design of that one guy, though - red hair and green eyes. I *love* that combination. It's wonderful. And he used a whip. I thought that was amusing - ROSE whip, no less. So terribly gay.

Other than that, I don't think I'll be in a great hurry to acquire more of the series.

I'm not going to do fantastic on this midterm, I don't think - I can't seem to figure out which information I need to keep in my head. I studied all the information in a general sort of way and then looked at old midterms, and studied some more based on that. I'm still not sure, though.

Meh. Oh well. What happens, happens.

The pretty guy with the rose whip is Kurama. Fangirls love to slash him and Hiei (the short guy), even though there's really no yaoi hints in the series. Kurama is the main reason YYH's fanbase in this country is mainly female.

I'm quite familiar with Kurama since my best friend used to write Sailor Moon/YYH crossover fanfics where Yaten and Kurama were lovers.

Personally, I've always been a fan of Yusuke and Kuwabara, who actually do almost share a kiss (in a dream - or would that be nightmare? - sequence at the beginning of the series). They're both pretty damn straight, though, and most fanigrls would kill me if they even heard the suggestion spoken aloud in their presence. Kurama (pretty rose whip boy) and Hiei are the most popular yaoi pairing, and thanks to Yaoi-Con, I've seen a couple pretty good pairing vids for them, though I'm not convinced myself. I'm told there actually is a canon gay couple that show up as antagonists in the series - somewhere in the Dark Tournament arc, I believe - but I never got through enough of the series to really bother. I liked the series, but not enough to keep renting it after about episode 35 or so.

Good luck on the exam!

Remind me sometime to tell you about how in the Phillipines they were showing a dubbed version of YYH and mistook Kurama for a girl for half the series. It's amusing. XD

I've read this post and the comments over a few times, debating on what I'd like to say. This probably goes above and beyond however little you're curious, but oh well. Hmmm... first off... Kurama/Hiei (or any combination thereof) was one of the first yaoi pairings I read extensively 7+ years ago. This was long before there was an english broadcast and I hadn't even seen fansubs at that point. Having watched bits of the series years later, I'll agree that there's no direct evidence of any monkey-business going on. However, there are lots of things that can be implied from their interactions.

Hiei's personality is pretty foul, but he tolerates Kurama's presence a great deal more than the others... there are also looks between the two during battles and tournaments. And there's the fact that neither of them is quite human (unlike the other members of the team). Hiei is a youkai (koorime, to be specific), and Kurama is a kitsune trapped in a human body. They also have a small amount of past history together before entering into the human world.

Also, they share an image song: Wild Wind... a duet just for them. There are group songs, solo songs, and a very limited amount of duets.... Yuusuke/Keiko (canon couple), Kuwabara/Yukina (Kuwabara likes Yukina in canon), Koenma/Botan (employer/employee... no direct evidence that there's -not- anything going on), and.... Kurama/Hiei.... and just look at the lyrics.... http://www.animelyrics.com/anime/yyh/yyhwild.htm .

It's weak, but there is a shaky base for a relationship to be placed or inferred. (And there's way more evidence for K/H than there is for FMA's popular Roy/Ed pairing, but I'll beat that horse elsewhere.)

That said, there's a -lot- of fannon floating around. So much so, that some people created this list of unsubstantiated fan-myths: http://www-personal.umich.edu/~weyrbrat/fanfic/scenes/myths.html There's also a higher tendency to run into M-Preg fics in YYH... probably because of the flexibility of demon physiology. (o.O; Not quit sure if I intended the pun or not.)

I agree with your assessment.... the character designs are interesting, but they don't make the show worth watching. It's one interminable fight after another... very much a shounen anime. The fanfiction, some of the older stuff anyway, is decent.

The popularity of Talya Firedancer's fics (yes, the same as the GW author) account for the spread of the fanon... Her fics, while sometimes amusing, aren't very in-character. (Warning Label) I remember liking Utopian Trunks' YYH fics and there used to be an archive... ah: http://morgan-d.net/fanfics/fanfics.html There was a different archive, but I haven't actively looked for YYH fics in years.

That said... I see a great deal of difference in the fanfiction before and after the english release... (re: our previous discussion about Gravi... if I remember correctly) More modern fangirls don't seem too set on Kurama/Hiei and seem to prefer Yuusuke/Kurama ... which I find less convincing a pairing.

:P So, there you go. More info than you needed to know, right?

and... I think I've heard that Ken-comment before... but it's still funny. *pets Ken-chan*
