On NagixOmi

All right, my homework is done. I'm taking a break and writing a rant. But! Now I've figured out how to arrange my LJ so that no one has to look at my opinion unless they want to. Haha! I've just saved everybody a lot of time.

Weiss rants ahead!

I love Omi. I love Nagi. (to a lesser degree, but it's love all the same)

But I do not love NagixOmi.

Actually, I have trouble with fics where Nagi and Omi are even friends.

Why? I love them both. You'd think I'd love them together, right? Well... it is just not to be. For me, anyway. I felt like typing my reasons out in a nice organized manner in my journal. I'm not bashing the couple. It *would* be cute. In fact, I've seen the 'bed' picture and I know it looks cute. There should be no problem, right?

Well... I cringe back from it.

Reason One: the 'enemy' thing. Okay, I'll admit I've fallen prey to 'rival' type couples before. Like Ken and Daisuke from Digimon. But! It's not quite the same. I'm not much of a Kaizer/Daisuke fan, for one. I prefer to write when Ken is good - and best friends with Daisuke - not when he's taking over the Digital World. (best friends theorem - my personal favorite)

Nagi and Omi are assassins, and the rivalry between Schwartz and Weiss is deadly serious. In fact, Omi *despises* Schwartz because they caused Oka's death. And not just Farfarello or Schuldig - the whole group. He proves this by yelling 'This is for Oka!' when trying to attack Nagi with his darts of death in the last ep. Omi's a little too smart to hook up with an enemy, and I think his hatred for Schwartz is a little too strong for him to even become friends with one of them.

People seem to think that Nagi isn't a real member of Schwartz. He's being forced, or he's just lonely, or whatever. I've seen so many fics where Nagi is an innocent victim trying to get away from Schwartz that it's not even funny. And he's always wildly out of character. On the show, Nagi doesn't seem against anything Schwartz does. Actually, he seems not to care much about anything beyond Tot, Schwartz's ideals, and his very sad history. But if he were opposed to Schwartz, I think he would've been outta there. He also seems to harbor a towering resentment and disdain for "ordinary" people.

Which leads me to the next reason...

Reason Two: A pairing between Nagi and Omi would not be equal. A lot of people think it would be, because... well, Nagi and Omi are both short and young and computer experts, and very cute. So, it would be equal! Uhhhh... no. Let's work Nagi's power into the equation somehow. Omi doesn't have any power. A fight between Nagi and Omi would be extremely one-sided - as I think everyone saw in the last episode. (I visibly winced when Nagi smashed Omi into the pillar. Ouch.)

Nagi is of the opinion - as with the rest of Schwartz - that normal people are only worthy of his scorn. The only 'normal' person he got close to was Tot, and hers was a bit of a special case, since she was mentally a child. Nagi never got the chance to really *be* a child, and he was quite protective of her. Omi wouldn't have that same advantage, and I think Nagi would consider himself to be superior. This is the general opinion that Schwartz has of Weiss, after all.

Reason Three: I'm going to be obvious here. Nagi and Omi's only interaction is a half-assed fight scene where Nagi basically picks Omi up with his power and smashes him into a pillar. Before that, they never even appeared to notice each other. They never spoke. They never showed signs of *wanting* to speak. They didn't give each other more than a passing glance.

I can't base a pairing on the fact that they're both the youngest in their respective groups and they both like computers. Especially not with all that other evidence speaking against them.

To summarize, I don't see it. I don't think I'll ever see it, unless somebody some day comes around with a secret hidden episode where they actually interact.

But that seems unlikely.

I want to see a picture where Nagi's all in dark shades and Omi's all in light, and they're standing back-to-back with a cool sky in behind them.

Darn it all! Why can't I draw? And why can't people who draw be plagued by the same images that haunt my head?

Ah well...
