Random Pimping
I was just watching Uninhabited Planet Survive again, and remembered how much I love that series. The characters seem so different at the beginning from how they turn out in the end, and yet they are so familiar. I remember how much I underestimated Bell, how much I hated Howard, how I thought Sharla was so useless, how Kaoru was always SO damn quiet... And Luna, Menori, and Shingo seemed so typical of their character types.
I love them all. Such wonderful characters, who I got to know so well... It's great to revisit.
I want to further urge anyone who might be the slightest bit curious to watch at least the first episode. If you stick with the series, you won't be sorry.

As for Chako, I found she got less annoying as the series went on. She has a history with Luna that's a little bit interesting. Not a lot, but a little.
I recommend you watch further when you can! It's all up on YouTube, if that's more convenient. The series has flaws - the plot tends to be a bit weak, and in some places you'll probably just roll your eyes - but the characters react and behave in believable ways. If you watch all the way through and then go back to the beginning, you realize just how much they've all grown through the course of the show.
Besides, it's like Digimon Adventure's older sibling. Think about it!

As for Chako, I suppose it's just a gut reaction to the "talking cat? ROBOT cat? Cheeky robot cat?!" line of reasoning. I was never too fond of the cute animal mascots that pop up in anime from time to time.

Chako's not as bad as she could be. Slightly annoying, but not enough to ruin the show in any way.
Howard remains self-centered and useless and fairly cowardly through the whole series. He's just less hateful. With some redeeming qualities. I found all of the character types to be fairly predictable, but in a *good* way, you know? I can't explain it. I just enjoyed every single one of them.

I don't mind character types as long as they don't get too predictable - it's okay if I know which one will be saving the world in episode 51 as long as they surprise on the way there. And I certainly won't demand anything with too elaborate plots right now, as I'm currently trying to figure out whether I like Digimon Savers being so compactly written or not.

*dancing with utter love* I've been DYING to find that series and now I can do it!
At least, after Christmas ...
