Top Five Anime Showdown - Part One
The first two face-offs between my top five anime shows.
Hikaru no Go vs Princess Tutu
Reasoning: To be perfectly honest, I am more attached to Hikaru and Sai and Akira than I am to Ahiru and Mythos and Rue. I'll admit that the fairy tale motif is appealing, and the dance is gorgeous, but Hikaru no Go has more of a gritty, down-to-earth feeling. It feels very real to me; not because it is more realistic, but because the characters tug at my soul more. I am attached to both series, but more so to Hikaru no Go.
Victor: Hikaru no Go
Hikaru no Go vs Twelve Kingdoms
Reasoning: My reasoning on this one is a little less... er... reasonable. It's so difficult to find heroines whose characters are developed and explored so completely, who grow during the course of a series and become strong individuals, that I had to choose this series over a show full of boys. Youko is one of those rare females in anime (or action movies) who isn't restrained to a certain role by being female. She grows from a weak person who lets her fears and doubts control her to a ruler who accepts her fears and doubts but attempts to work past them. The two major female characters in the third arc of the series were interesting as well.
Victor: Twelve Kingdoms
