Top Five Anime Showdown - Part Two
The next bit of my top five anime showdown thing.
Mushishi vs Princess Tutu
Reasoning: The fairy tale motif is appealing, but the supernatural creepiness of Mushishi is even better. Certainly Princess Tutu has a more complete and well-executed storyline, but given the episodic nature of Mushishi, this is kind of inevitable. I'd say that I prefer Mushishi for its overall concept and ongoing series of stories. The series has a less dreamlike and more real feeling that really makes me deliciously shivery.
Victor: Mushishi
Mushishi vs Twelve Kingdoms
Reasoning: This is another motif choice. Epic fantasy loses to the supernatural unknown. Twelve Kingdoms really smacks of being a historical account, and while this is interesting, Mushishi's aura of the eerie unknown overshadows it. Both series have a wonderful set of details that make them seem very real despite the fantastical elements. Mushishi just has a premise that speaks to me more.
Victor: Mushishi
More to come!
