First Fanfic Post

I was randomly thinking about this a little while ago... the first time I ever posted a fanfic I wrote in a public place looking for comments. Not the first time I wrote one (like most people, I feel I'm better off not discussing that), but the first time I submitted it for C&C.

That was back in the day when the Yahoo Groups were one of the major ficcing resources. I was just barely into yaoi, in my first online fandom, Digimon. Season two wasn't even out in NA yet, so it was really early on. The pairing I wrote for was Joe/Izzy. At the time I also liked pairing Tai with Sora, so that pairing was in the fic as a side thing. I was so nervous posting it on the ML, I remember feeling shaky when I went to press the 'submit' button.

And the very first comment I got... not encouragement, not a flame, not even a comment on the story. The person said, "I got as far as the 'Taiora' warning and didn't even read this." She wasn't actually pissed about the pairing, she just didn't like the fact that I used 'Taiora' as the warning since "you weren't supposed to" mash the character names when it was a het pairing.

Now that I think back, it was a childish outburst on her part. What a retarded thing to make a fuss about, especially with a new poster. At the time, I was just devastated that I'd screwed up on the first fanfic I'd ever posted. I almost gave up the idea of ever posting anything else. But several more people responded with more encouraging things to say about the content itself, and I made a few friends and felt more confident.

I'll never forget that first one, though.

Does anyone else feel like sharing their first fanfic posting experience? I'm curious!

Mine was about the same time Gundam Wing made its way to Cartoon Network. By then I was watching Sailormoon, GW, and DBZ on a regular basis. Somehow I stumbled upon FF.net and discovered a Tenchi/GW/SM crossover. And I read it. And I was surprised to find pairings like... Quatre/Trowa, Heero/Usagi, Rei/Wufei, Ryoko/Duo. Strange, interesting stuff.

... so! I took the three animes I watched and made a crossover: DBZ/GW/SM. And a sequel. And a sequel to that. But I had pairings (some I cringe over) like... Pan/Wufei, Duo/Bra, Rei/Uub, Goten/Minako, and Ami/Quatre. I did like the concept of Heero/Usagi, at the time, so I kinda stole that concept, too.

And I didn't exactly start the underground cult of Heero/Usagi (or Usagi/anyone you can cross over with), but I definitely nudged it.

Looking back... Pan/Wufei is the only pairing I still like. And I accept and admit it's on crack.

It was here (http://www.angelfire.com/md/teamrocket/Main.html). I never got any feedback on it, and mailed them back a year later to ask them to take it down so that my good name *cough* wouldn't be assosciated with that kind of drivel. I started posting on FFN a few months later, and most of that is actually still up.

I posted my first fanfics in the Gundam Wing fandom, at ff.net. They were these horrible song filks and parodies but, I think I got nothing but good, encouraging comments and that was so brilliant because I had been so nervous about it and it made me really happy. It also encouraged me to continue to write and post. Throughout the years, I've really mostly had encouraging feedback, with the occasional load of constructive feedback which might have stung at first but then actually helped a lot. I don't think I've ever received a real flame. Maybe things like the comment you received, at most.

And, uh, that's why I really quite like ff.net. Lots of Mary Sues and bad writing and all, but it is easy to find and there are lots of people to encourage creativity, which, to me, is really important. I still post there every now and then, although I eventually moved on to lj and forums. :)

I wrote a few unfinished fanfics a while ago when I was into DBZ. It didn't occur to me to write about pairings though. I was totally anti-lemon. Things had to go according to the show. XP

I wrote a story a girl from another dimension who ended up in the body of Vegeta and so all the other characters where like "WTF..?". My sister submitted it to a site somewhere but the site seems to be gone now. Same with the original story.
