New Anime!
So, I've finished watching the first episode for each anime that was recced to me except for Hellsing (Cody wants to watch that one with me). And I have five I for sure what to watch, four on the maybe list, and four that I decided weren't for me.
Here's what it broke down to:
Yes
1. Baccano!
2. Seirei no Moribito
3. Denno Coil
4. Rozen Maiden
5. Tantei Gakuen Q
I lumped these all together instead of giving reasons for each one. From the first episode of each, I've decided I'm interested and I want to watch further. I'll probably post at least a brief review for each one as I finish watching them, so I won't go into too much here. The order I listed them in is the order I plan to watch them in. Baccano is first purely because it's the shortest, and Tantei Gakuen Q is last because it's the longest. The others are just the order I felt I wanted to watch them in. No particular reason, that's just how I wanted it.
Maybe
1. Saiunkoku Monogatari
I'm leaning towards 'yes' with this one. The first episode was very engaging, and I adore the opening theme song. I was a little iffy on the plotline and the characters haven't really grabbed me in any way that engages my interest. Maybe in future episodes. I might give this a try again at a later point.
2. Toshokan Sensou / Library War
I thought this one would be funnier for some reason. In any case, the plot isn't that interesting and despite the fact that the dynamics raised a bit of interest, the characters were not all that engaging. I might give this one another try at some point as well, but for now I'm not really that into it.
3. Eyeshield 21
This episode was actually pretty funny. I'm tempted to continue with it. The question that always makes me lose interest in continuing with a sports anime is what got me on this one: do I really want to watch 145 episodes about football? I don't know if I do. Cody expressed interest in watching an episode of this one, so if he likes it, we might watch it together. If it's just going to be me, I probably won't get to it. But you never know.
4. Code Geass
Clamp and Gundam Seed mixed into one... that's the impression I got of this anime. It's sort of interesting, in a way, but I haven't decided if it caught my attention well enough. The almost-casual masacre near the end was like "whoa wtf?" But yeah, maybe.
No
1. Vampire Knight
Meh, vampires. What can I say? I got sick of vampires shortly after I entered fandom. They always seem to be angsty and beautiful. I can deal with beautiful (as long as it's not to the point where you can't tell who's a boy and who's a girl), but the angst gets old after a while. Really old. Just for the sake of variety, I'd like to see a vampire story that's cute and funny and happy rather than choked with angst. Anyway, I didn't see anything new in this one, so I gave it a pass.
2. Kamichu!
This one was too cutesy and too slow-paced for me. I don't mind cutesy and don't mind slow-paced, but together? I don't think I could continue with this. It wasn't bad, but I couldn't really get into it.
3. Ayatsuri Sakon
The puppet thing was too odd for me. I just couldn't bring myself to think of the puppet as a separate character. It got a little too weird. The mystery thing was kind of neat, but I don't think I'd keep watching.
4. Jyu Oh Sei
Oddly (considering the bloodbath in Code Geass), this one disturbed me more than any of the others. I'm a very big fan of sibling and friendship relationships and those bonds conquering all, and the casual dismissal of the weaker twin as dead weight (even if it was true) really made me feel awful. I think I'd have nightmares or end up going to bed crying for a few nights if I kept watching this. I just refuse to. No. Uh-uh.
Until I watch Hellsing, that's about it... Now, after I finish Escaflowne (or maybe even before), I'll be starting on some Baccano! episodes. Looking forward to it!

I'm really picky, too, though. *clings to her L.J. Smith novels*

I'm very sorry about Jyu Oh Sei though. I know I shouldn't be but it's horrible to realise you've recced something to someone that's actually upset them! *offers hugs* I'm really sorry it made you feel so bad! At least I've managed to rec you some things you like though to cheer you up! But sorry anyway!
And I had the same problem with Saiunkoku Monogatari when we watched some last year. Interesting but just didn't quite connect.

I'm really looking forward to watching Tantei Gakuen Q, so one of your recs worked out great for me! Thanks for reccing all of them, though - it's good to broaden the anime viewing experience. ;)
