Yeah, the first anime ending was iffy for me, which is why I'm so happy that Brotherhood follows the manga very closely. I can't wait to watch the last chapter in anime form!
D.Gray-Man might get a few, but I'd imagine that the fans who were going to trickle over from FMA mostly have done so by now. I've had a few FMA fans tell me DGM isn't their thing. But I agree with you! There are a lot of similarities. The D.Gray-Man mangaka has a very odd sense of humor sometimes, though, whereas Arakawa has this simple, hearty humor that I like very much.
I'm not entirely sure I'm happy with the latest content of D.Gray-Man, either. I liked it a lot better at the beginning and I'm starting to find it a bit tiresome now - but I'm still planning on following it through to the end. I remember being absolutely obsessed with it when I first discovered it.
I never did make it through the first round of filler in the anime series, though.
