Part one of Dragon of Twilight is up, and part one of my new fic is in the works. Hehe... I think the parts for that fic are going to be longer than the parts for Dragon of Twilight. So far, I've reached the length of DoT's part one, and Majic hasn't even made an appearance yet.

But he *will*, you can be sure of that.

Aside from Forsaken's new chapter of Circle of Time (I *adore* that fic), I read two other new Weiss fics last night... One was a new fic, and one was a new chapter. The new fic was cute, but the new chapter was... well, okay. I just can't bring myself to believe that Aya dictates the household and everyone is cowed by his ultimate authority. For one thing, Aya's never seriously interfered with his teammates' lives unless it had something to do with a mission. And for another, they're all big boys. I'm sure they don't need someone telling them how to live.

Aya: "You and Ken cannot be in each other's rooms."

Omi: "Uh huh, whatever you say, Aya-kun." *already typing a report to Kritiker regarding Aya's drug addiction problem, with the suggestion that he be rehabilitated immediately*

I somehow don't think either Omi or Ken would let Aya push them around.

Last night as I was trying to fall asleep, I started thinking about something a friend of mine says. She doesn't like what some people call 'rivalships' - couples who are either complete enemies, or who just don't get along with each other. I like them myself, but there a few I just... don't.

I can't remember if there are more. Here's five, anyway.

Nagi/Omi: No interaction. They don't even seem to know each other's names. And what's more, they don't *care* that they don't know.

Aya/Ken: No chemistry. How often do these two talk to each other? What would they talk about? What would they *do* together? This honestly baffles me.

Yuki/Kyo: I *can't* like these two together. I don't know why. Maybe it's because I don't like Yuki that much... he's so smug and self-righteous at times.

Daisuke/Takeru: I like them better with other people. That's about it.

Muraki/Tsuzuki: Umm... let's not go there.

I guess for me it depends on the couple. My favorite combination tends to be the best friends thing, but rivalships are fun and exciting at times, too. Heh... I guess there's not much point trying to tear it apart and try to find meaning to it. You either like it or you don't.

Oh, I am so addicted to Daisuke/Ken! ^________^ They are adorable!

As for Weiss... well, I know a lot of people disagree with me. This little insert is basically just the reason *I* don't like it. (I haven't seen Gluhen or read Weiss Side B, btw) I just don't think Aya and Ken are compatable. *shrug* A lot of people think I need to have my head examined. Oh well, that's life, hm? ^_~

And you didn't answer my question about the couple. :P What would they talk about? What would they do together? I honestly want to know, and no RanKen fan has ever given me a satisfactory answer.

Also, I was going to add Orphen/Cleao as well, but changed my mind. They're not so much a rivalship. *pouts* Oh well... I still don't like them.

Great; now I'm actually going to have to hash out in essay format why I support Ken/Aya(Ran), why I think there's logical basis for it, etc. You're *evil* Aphrael. As if I didn't already have enough to do... *cue grumbling* It's hard for me to put into words for you unless I hash it out like an essay. I know why I see the characters the way I do, and why I write their relationships the way I do, and why I write my fan fiction the way I do, but I can't summarise is very simply. I'm going to have to think about this one so I can make it a logical presentation. I do have to say there really isn't much in the Kapitel anime to support it other than a few *potential* hints, but I also feel the same way about any relationship other than Omi and Ouka, Sakura stalking Ran, Youji being a pimp, and Ken and...damn, forgot the motorcycle chick's name. ^__^ To me, it's the RDs, manga, and Gluhen that really capture what Koyasu Takehito seemed to be aiming for.

Orphen/Cleao isn't a ship; it's a disaster waiting to happen. Write that down. (Sorry, "Van Wilder" moment. ;p)

You don't need to write an essay. ^_^ I'm a slash fan myself. I can see where people get RanKen from, especially reading the manga. There are hints out there. It's just my opinion that it's not a good couple.

The only thing I want is to know what they would *do* together! It doesn't have to be an essay! Just tell me one thing they would talk about, or one thing they would do as a couple. That's all I want to know. ^_^ I don't understand why it's such a difficult question...

If he was really aiming for anything at all. All those yaoi hints that we fangirls see in the series, it was probably meant as nothing more than close friendship formed through the secret they shared. And if he really was trying to show something, then he would probably not be aiming for just one or two people to come across as having a very close bond but each character having different bonds with the others. Does that make sense?

I think one of the main problems I have with a lot of Weiss (fans and fics) is that eventually, the relationships between the people not involved in a relationship is ignored. So, you'll see a RanKen, YoujiOmi, AyaYouji, KenOmi, etc. fic that just focuses on the two characters together and then you really miss out.

It's something that I dislike but that I know I do as well because my writing isn't the best.

What I would like to see is a RanKen fic that doesn't forget that they interact with Youji and Omi as well (course, it may be out there but I've just missed it because I kinda avoid RanKen fics like the plague @_@).

Heh, I completely agree with the fact that the yaoi fandom reads more into the series than Koyasu Takehito intended. But, then again, I absolutely cannot stand fics that only focus on the relationship/sex as the entire point of the fic. That was part of the reason I baled from the GW fandom so quickly...and part of the reason I desperately try to avoid political battles in the fandoms I'm still active in. As a writer, yeah, I might want to see a certain pair of characters get together, but I want to see the whole spectrum of their life. And characterisation is often a matter of perspective, but in WK it often seems to me that people forget that their boys/young men with rough pasts, with ISSUES, who kill for money. Sure, there's a higher purpose of Kritiker as well, but the basics are they're assassins. I can't do fluffy/humour for WK after the boys are in Kritiker; can't see it, don't get it, beat my head against a wall when I find it. "Dramatic Precious" is actually my favourite WK installment, and a lot of people refuse to acknowledge its existence - I think because we get a deeper look into the psyche of those who kill and what it makes them become.

Though I adore Ken/Ran (in that order, actually - which is a *long* story in and of itself), I haven't found a lot of fan fiction that I like. P.S. Speare (whom you know ^_^) is one of the few, and "Upon a Painted Ocean" is AU. Shiori's "New World Order" is also AU, but has nice character interaction with everyone, including Schwarz, even though I don't always agree with her characterisations.

True, we often read to our character/ship biases (and I can't stand Ken/Omi personally because it seems almost incestuous, and I don't see them having that much in common though people have tried to sway me otherwise), but I try to give every *good* story a chance, despite who ends up with whom at the end. I read Aprhael's and admire their craft though I don't agree with the pairing.

Heh. ^_^ Thanks. And I know how hard it is to read pairings you don't like (I personally can't do it ^^;; ) so I'll take that as a huge compliment.

I like the good PWP every now and then, but I don't want to read them all the time. I love fics that are intricit (~_~ English major and still can't spell) and do have depth. But as for over all, I think that less is better in this case. Sex should not be the main point of a fic (most of the time) but more like a nice treat in the center ^o^ Kinda like a hostess donut.

As for no humor in Weiss: I think the anime lends itself to humor. You do see some throughout the anime and (from the little I can gleen from my manga) some from the manga as well. I prefer writing angst to humor, but I think if done correctly, any story that has a trace of humor in it can be funny. Also, there's only so much angst and in depth characterization that you can do before you go crazy. It's also nice to give the characters a break ^_^;

XD;; Do I flaunt my friendships that much? Actually, Portia got me to read about 3 chapters of Painted Ocean and then I bailed ^_^;; I only read those three because I had the inside track on them. For some reason, no matter how hard I try, I can't read RanKen. My mind literally balks at it and I can get maybe one paragraph in before I can't read anymore ^_^;; (And as for you liking Ken on top, in my mind, Ken is all seme. There's no way this guy is playing bottom to anyone. I think it has to do with the fact that he plays soccer ^_^; )

A lot of people see Ken and Omi more as brothers *shrugs* Maybe it's because of my own relationship with my family and seeing some brothers interact that I don't believe they have that kind of relationship. O_o The guys I knew fist-fought constantly. They weren't very nice to me either XD;;

As for characterizations, I think Generic Miko has some of the best characterizations I have ever seen *dies* I *heart* her Ken. Her Aya is how I picture him (a cold-hearted bastard) and Youji and Omi are great. I don't like seeing my favorite characters bashed, but I also don't like seeing characters needlessly OOC or just horrible just for the hell of it. Course, characterization is gonna be different for everyone. I'm one of the only people (I think) that doesn't like Aya *shrugs*
