Ranting. Heh.

Argh. Okay. I paid a trip over to [livejournal.com profile] yaoi_rants. And I really shouldn't have - all it's doing is pissing me off. I thought it'd be fun, really. Maybe I'd see some poking-fun at stupid cliches in bad fanfiction.

Too much stupidity, though. Seriously. Every time I think I've come across a sane poster, they someone bring it back to that evil, EVIL point that is the defense of the self-proclaimed "sane" yaoi fan.

"Well, yeah, I like yaoi as much as the next person, but come on, you can't just make perfectly straight characters gay, right?"

Watch me bang my fists on the ground in frustration. The HELL? How can so many people agree with this opinion and not see the complete and utter bullshit it is?

It's intolerance disguised as tolerance! The FUCK you are open-minded! Who's to say which characters are "perfectly straight" anyway? You? Suppose I don't agree with you? Then I guess I'm rabid and stupid, since obviously you have the last word on the subject. I'd better consult you before I decide to like a pairing, or I might look stupid. Right?

Save me from patronizing nitwits! I have reasons for my choices - just because you don't buy them doesn't mean they're not valid. Shut the hell up and leave me alone if you don't have anything productive to say. I don't criticize YOUR choice of pairings, so leave mine the hell alone.

I'm sick and tired of people who connect pairing to badfic. Just because someone writes a certain pairing doesn't automatically make their fic BAD. Conversely, this also doesn't mean it's GOOD. The quality of the fic depends on the skill of the writer and their ability to handle characterization believably. NOT on the pairing.

Pairing has nothing to do with it! Every pairing has its share of badfic. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that if you look at things proportionately, most pairings probably have close to the same ratio of badfic to goodfic as others. Some pairings have more written for them, so the number of badfic is larger. Does this make the pairing bad? No. It makes those particular fics bad.

If you feel the urge to associate pairing with badfic, go take a look through your own pairing's fandom and ask yourself honestly how many fics THERE are bad.

Badfic is everywhere. It's not limited to yaoi, to het, or to any one particular pairing. It's a staple in fandom. Nothing makes your pairing inherently better than mine, no matter how "canon" you think it is.

So, pull your head back out of your ass and get over it.

I can really bitch with the best of them, can't I?

It's not that I have a PROBLEM with breaking up canon couples. Heck, I DETEST most canon couples in stories where romance isn't the actual focus. It's just that in a lot of fanfics where somebody are paired up with somebody else than who they were with canonically, it's usually just written off with "they broke up". And that can be okay, but if the romance in question actually had something to say for the story, there needs to be SOME explanation. And unfortunately, that is something a lot of stories are lacking - and it looks sloppy at best.
So, I'm all for breaking up canon couples. It just gets on my nerves when people can't do it decently.
