Prince of Tennis impressions
Okay, so I've watched through the 10 episodes that I've been told I have to at least get through before I decide anything about Prince of Tennis. (Although I kinda skipped episode 8 after skimming ahead to see who won)
Impressions:
1. I don't like Ryoma. I suppose you could put him just above Howard on the list of "Anime Characters I Disliked Right From the Start". He's an arrogant little prat, and the only reason I want him to win games is when his opponents are even worse than he is. I really want him to get his ass handed to him, but I suspect that'll only happen if I actually get to like the little prick some day.
2. I like Ryoma's dad even less than him. The man is a first-class asshole.
3. I also dislike Sakuno. She personifies the things people don't like about anime females - she and other characters like her are the reason people have such a low opinion of girls in anime.
4. Momoshiro is awesome. He was the series' saving grace for me, so it was probably lucky he made his appearance in episode two rather than later on. The guy is EASILY my favorite character; he's cool, he's fun, he's hot... What's not to like?
5. I also have favorable impressions of the "regulars" in general. Although with Fuji and Eiji, this could be uneducated bias, since Eiji's hair reminds me of Waya and Fuji has Kurapika's voice. I didn't want Kaidoh and Inui to lose to Ryoma, either. Bleh.
6. The episode with the vegetable juice is actually episode 9.
third_requiem told me it was after 10 - pleasant surprise, I think. It was amusing.
7.
sailormac told me what the more popular pairings are. Withholding judgement. Especially in Momoshiro's case, because NO ONE is good enough for him. (Okay, that's a lie, he'll be slashed as soon as it's convenient)
8. I'm going to keep watching. I expect the next few episodes to tell me whether or not I want to buy DVDs.

I liked Momoshiro too, and he's one of the more visible characters through the series. The veggie juice episode-- number 9-- is the reason I told you to give it ten episodes *grin* That's the episode that got me interested in more, and it starts to pick up a bit after 10, IMO.

YES! How soon will that happen?
I thought that first, actually, about Sakuno, but I find her to be pretty well useless as a character. Why is she even in there? Does she have some purpose? Other than "token female character", I mean... It would be better not to have a girl in there at all than to have one who does absolutely nothing for the series and yet still somehow gets focus.
I look forward to future episodes, anyway. :) Who knows, maybe some of these people will grow on me.

Well, yes XD She is useless as a character. But I like her anyway :) Hopefully the less interesting characters will grow on you. They grew on me.

Momo is damned awesome, though. :D <3 He's up there in cool. X3
I'm a Yamabuki girl myself~
Though, it's funny, most of the rival teams I'm like, "I HATE YOU, DIE" at first, and then later I fall completely in love with them. :D
And yes, I was biased toward Fuji because of Kaida Yuki, but... Fuji = awesome, imho.And did you know Inoue's seiyuu is Leorio's? XD InouexFuji=OTP! *shot* XD;;;
...and of course, Eiji=Hisoka. >_>; *sorry if you knew this already* XD;;;

*laugh* I don't think I'm going to let seiyuu pick my OTPs, but that one would've been... interesting. I've yet to see how it'd work out, but I'm sure fangirls could find a way if they wanted to. Hee.
I've been told that I'll eventually love the rival teams even though I hate them at first. I will have to wait and see, though. :)

Seiyuu roles amuse me so much. *lame*Yeah. XD I was totally kidding about that OTP. If I did that... I'd have a few very crap OTPs. XD; More than I do. *chuckles*
*nodsnods* I was bitter and disliked Fudoumine when they first showed and now I adoooooooore them. (Heck, I even cosplayed one of them! :D)

I adore Ryoma. I honestly do.
And Inui Juice is hilarious.

I don't adore Ryoma. At all. But I guess that could change...
Inui Juice was very funny. :) Inui is awesome.

Which is really strange that he becomes so close to Momo but I think that's because Ryoma really needs a friend and Momo is...MOMO! He's the type that balances out Ryoma's stubborness and makes him think of things besides tennis and beating his dad. Momo forces Ryoma to have fun and be a kid and I think Ryoma likes his company because of that.
*coughs* [/rant]

2. As does Nanjiroh. Dude. Just WAIT until he and Momo get into a muscle contest XD Classic.
3. We all dislike anime!Sakuno. However, after RPing in
4. Momo is the awesomest character. He's so lovable and frienly and I don't know why he doesn't get more love in the fandom.
5. Fuji is like...hidden evil :O but he's awesome. I think you'll really like it when Yuuta, Fuji's younger brother, makes his entrance ^_^ They're so cute together. OHHH!!! Specially the Date episode. But that's around 74 and you have to WATCH the previous eps to get some of the jokes.
6. Oops. The juice gets better and better ^_^
7. Bah I say to popular pairings <.< The great thing is that while there are more fandom loved pairings, nearly anything is acceptable. Mmmmm...beware most of the TezuFuji fans. And non-fans. That's the most lethal pairing in the fandom. (Momo and Ryoma!! MOMORYO!!!XD It eats your brain! Ep 27 *nods* Ryoma actually gets teary-eyed at Momo)
8. :/ I wouldn't buy the DVDs probably. At least, if you do, don't buy the entire set. Not worth it. Only really worth it up to 79 or so and then the Rokkaku eps. Other than those, it's just kinda...blah.

2. I saw the muscle contest. I still don't like him. But I LOVE Momo! <3333333
3. I don't think I will grow to like Sakuno. At all.
4. Momo is so the awesomest! XD He doesn't get enough love in fandom? oO Why NOT?
5. Fuji has Kurapika's voice. Heeeeee. Does he ever open his eyes?
6. There's more with the juice? :D I like this anime more and more...
7. *shrug* Well, I'm not necessarily going for the popular pairings... I was just curious, since I tend to end up going for the most obvious ones and those are usually - not always! - the popular ones. I don't know if I like the idea of TezuFuji. Tezuka seems a little on the scary side so far. ^^;
8. The DVDs are $7.50 each and I get 13 episodes on each one. It's not THAT much money. And if I was going to buy them, I wouldn't buy them all at once anyway... I'd buy 6 DVDs so I could get a 7th for free, and take the first thirteen eps of Tsubasa as the free one. That'd get me 84 episodes of PoT. Then if I really wanted to, I'd buy more later on.

2. Awwww. I don't like Nanjiroh as a dad, but he's a hilarious character.
3. Doesn't surprise me XD
4. He does get love, just not as much as other characters :/ I dunno. My guess is either because he's not as pretty as some of the other regulars (I mean, poor Taka gets NO love T_T) or because *shrugs* they'd rather pair other people together instead of with Momo.
5. When he opens his eyes, he's scary :O It's when he's his most serious. So, ya know....
6. There is definitely more with the juice XD It's almost THE running TeniPuri gag.
7. I kinda agree with this. Usually, I end up with pairings I think are the most obvious but get next to no attention in the fandom (ie. KenOmi, MomoRyo) Personally, I don't like TezuFuji for a few reasons. The main one being I'm just sick and tired of it. I don't really see them as a pairing in the anime and get tired of how some of the fans are just so "OMG! their luv is so tru! how can't you see it!? look at how they look at each other!!" and I'm just like...what do you mean? I don't see Tezuka changing around Fuji or acting different and with Fuji, it just seems like he likes messing around with Tezuka. But, I don't get into it because that part of the fandom is scary and scathing.
8. Ahhhh...I see. I'll hold my opinion about Tsubasa :/ I'm not happy with the anime and that's all I'll say.

I'd recommend
PuriTeni <3
Good thing, too, or I'd never've liked Kirihara.
Honestly, it's hard to understand the dynamics of Ryoma or Nanjiroh until very late in the series. It's kind of like...when you first meet someone from one of the rival schools, you don't know them very well, so you're waiting to see how they turn out before you judge them. You almost have to do the same thing with Ryoma---heck, with all the Seigaku Regulars---because what you know about them is always being added to.
I was competative like Ryoma as a kid, and I still do snark way too often when uncomfortable with a situation; it's a defence mechanism. Sure, there are parts of the series that make you want to just fast-forward, but there are parts that are really good. I do have to say that it often seems like Konomi won't let Seigaku lose (I mean, they probably should occasionally, right? Law of Probability and all...), but at the same time, if they lost and quit moving forward to meet all these new rival teams, how would we get to see them grow? You'd never get to meet Yamabuki, Jouseishounen, Hyoutei, Rikkaidai, St. Rudolphs, etc....you'd never get to see friendships build along with the rivalries...
Plus, I'm a whore for the music. Not the sndtrk, which is rather dry, but the vocals are great. I've already written too much---must go and hide!
