When did you first discover Fullmetal Alchemist?
I heard about it from various people on my FL. Downloaded the Funimation trailer and opening video (Ready Steady Go). It seemed cool. Downloaded the manga, read a few chapters, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Then I downloaded the anime, and was officially hooked.
Are you happy you discovered FMA?
Yeah, most definitely. The series has some issues (what series doesn't?) but it's one of my favorites.
Do you consider yourself a fan?
I suppose some people wouldn't given that I've never done more than lurk behind the scenes on mailing lists and LJ communities, but I have been buying all the DVDs and manga volumes as they come out, and I adore the series. So yes, I am a fan, without a doubt.
Do you recommend the series to other people?
Yes. And yes again. It's awesome.
Sub or dub?
Sub. I almost always like subs better, even if the dub is good.
What do you think of the movie? The OVAs?
The movie was good. Not the greatest, but good. The one thing I wanted to see happen at the end happened at the end, so I am content.
The first OVA annoyed me, but the second was extremely cute. S'all good.
What about the manga? Do you read it?
I do. In the process of trying to decide which I liked more, the anime or the manga, I eventually came to the conclusion that it really didn't matter.
Which episode is the best?
My favorite is 22. It has been since the first time I watched it, and that never changed. I loved the whole Laboratory 5 arc in general.
Which episode is the worst?
Episode 4. I struggled between this one and that episode (36 or 37) where the village dies of that stone disease, but this one won out, because it was just dumb. At least the stone disease was kind of creepy in a way.
Did you cry at any point in the series/movie/OVA/manga?
Yes... several times. Especially after the second to last episode when I realized I'd have to wait a week to see what happened next.
The best opening/ending song?
'Rewrite', hands down.
Who’s your most favorite character?
Ed. :)
Who’s your least favorite character?
Tough question. Probably Archer.
Which character do you think is the most misunderstood?
Misunderstood? Good grief, I don't know.
Which character is the most under-rated?
Havoc. I love the guy.
Which character has the worst past?
Most of the key characters have really shitty pasts. I'd say they all lose.
Is Ed actually short?
Not as short as he thinks people think he is, but not tall enough to be normal for his age, either.
So... do the Homunculi have souls or not?
My understanding is that the definition of Homunculi is a fake human with no soul. So what we're asking here is if the beings referred to as Homunculi actually ARE Homunculi. It seems fairly unclear. We'd probably have to start asking 'what is a soul?' which is something philosophers haven't totally sorted out yet, as far as I know. I'm not about to try taking a stab at it. They most certainly have personalities, but whether those are manufactured or not is a good question.
Do you like Dante?
No. She was on my list of 'people I hope die by the end of the series'. I thought her end was pretty appropriate, too.
Do you hate Winry?
There are times when I do, and times when I don't. I don't like the 'wack the guy on the head with a wrench because I am woman, HEAR ME ROAR' thing. Winry would last all of two seconds in a serious fight with Ed - the only reason she gets away with smacking him around is because he KNOWS she's weaker than him and won't hit back. That kind of thing is more demeaning towards female characters than empowering.
I also definitely prefer manga Winry to anime Winry. Manga Winry is less whiny and more fun. Anime Winry annoys me more often than not.
Either way, though, she's a character I could take or leave.
What about Rose?
Rose isn't so much a character as a plot device. I never much cared one way or another about her.
Would you go on a date with Havoc?
For sure, if I wasn't already very happily taken. I think Havoc is cute.
Do you consider Scar a hero or a villain?
As with a lot of the characters in FMA, Scar is neither hero nor villain. I don't agree with his motives, but they aren't particularly evil in nature. He's a religious bigot, which gets on my nerves, but that also doesn't make him a villain. He starts off as an antagonist because he's fighting against the protagonist (Ed), but in the anime he certainly doesn't end off that way and in the manga it looks like the same thing will happen.
What was your first impression of Armstrong?
Something along the lines of 'Ummmm... WTF?'
Who’s more disturbed: Envy or Kimbley?
Given that Kimbley's human, I'd say he's the more disturbed one.
Did you like Hughes better after he died?
In the manga, Hughes' death was only slightly moving. It wasn't until after I got to know him (in the anime) that I really decided I liked him.
What about Greed?
Greed was cool. And not quite a villain, either, although he played a pretty good one. I didn't find that I liked him any less or better after his death.
Did you like Pride better before you found out he was a Homunculus?
I always hated Pride. And never had much doubt that he was a Homunculus.
If you were Roy, would you have killed Winry’s parents under orders?
I'd never have been in Roy's position in the first place, given that I'm an extreme wuss and not suited for military life. But if I did happen to somehow be in the situation, I think I'd end up crying and not being able to go through with it.
Was Hohenheim justified in leaving Envy after he created him, or was Dante the better parent?
Depends on the situation, I guess... I dunno.
Why does Al wear a loincloth?

I haven't seen enough of Ling-Greed to really say, but for now it's the original.

No. Most definitely not. He doesn't seem to have any remorse himself, despite wanting to fix her. The only reason he wants her back is because he didn't get what he wanted out of mutilating her in the first place.

I never agreed with Scar's motives, but he's easy to forgive.

I prefer Riza.
