Hmm...

On recent LJ events...

Thoughts?

Edit: More

Apparently it's not only fandom journals that are being targeted here. Journals designed as help and support for survivors of child abuse were also deleted with no warning, and for no good reason. Thus far, no one is admitting to the error. LJ blames these "Warriors of Innocense" and they blame LJ.

I'd say they're all idiots. Even all the "Warriors of Innocense" did was complain that LJ was hosting 'content containing pedoplia and incest' on their site, all you've done by stirring up this fuss is alert the real predators and make it harder for more intelligent and better organized groups to catch them. Even if all LJ did was delete the journals that the "Warriors of Innocense" pointed out, they didn't bother to check and see exactly what was on those journals, and that's ridiculous.

It reminds me of the big fanfiction.net mess years ago, only worse. A huge portion of the journals deleted were completely innocent. Lolita fashion communities? RPG villain journals? Support groups for survivors?

That blows me away. And the worst part is that LJ is not willing to admit that they've made a mistake in deleting the journals. How can you justify that? Seriously.

I've heard of that group before, but I'll be damned if I can remember where...argh, hopefully it will come to me. But I seem to recall the opinion was equally scathing.

Will be interesting to see. Given I write incest not infrequently, I'm sure at some point I'll be flamed by someone, though hopefully not a group like that. I'm all about burning child predators at the stake, but that's the wrong fucking way to go about it. Witch hunting helps no one except the witches, in the end.

After reading about this at this post (http://catrinella.livejournal.com/151812.html) I went right away to look at what interests I had listed. I think the only one that would be questionable would be "wincest." :(

According to the above post 'incest' hasn't really been targeted yet...

And I think it's very questionable that they're targeting fan communities, and not just RL comms.

Removed the incriminating tag from my interest list and am now staying up later than I probably should in order to watch it unfold. As for thoughts...

It's ugly, but I can't say I'm shocked. Looking at the website of the "warriors" (lots of pretty waifish pictures), they look like your average group of fanatics out to save the children, literally. They seem to me to be very little professional and very much about the rage, so I don't sympathize much with their quest, noble as it might be. And as long as LJ is deleting reported journals and comms that theoretically could serve as contact points for child abuse, I can't say they're the one I'm upset with yet.

It is creepy, however, that fandom is targeted. I mostly assume that these people know little of fandom except as "some pervs writing Harry Potter porn", but if they were to figure out how widespread shota, incest and porn involving underaged characters is, it's possible they could start targeting the larger sites. With the whole Fanlib debacle that has been going on lately, that could be a bit more attention than I think the community needs.

With this taken into acount, I'm no longer so patient with LJ's course of action (http://germaine-pet.livejournal.com/72292.html?style=mine).

I'm not even a part of any fandom and I'm appalled at these self proclaimed Warriors of Innocence. Maybe they're the pedophiles just doing this all to stir things up. Or maybe they're just some crazy people who read a bad fanfic that they didn't really like, maybe they thought the pairing was wrong or some other such nonsense.

And LJ is definitely not doing a very good job with it either. :/

You don't really know me, but I've been reading your fanfiction from way back in 2003 when I was really into digimon fanfiction--and I've been following a few journals on and off (in hope that I'll see more fanfiction about; not that it's happened, but hey, I still pop in here and there once in a while). ^^; I just realised how stalkery that sounded.

Anyway, I was wondering if you would be interested in joining [livejournal.com profile] fandom_counts since you seem to be interested in the issue too? If not, no worries. At any rate, thanks for the mention; it feels nice knowing that there are people who care about the matter, and think the whole thing was bullshit. So thank you for that!
