Last Airbender movie - again
Okay. This TV spot makes me feel slightly better about the Last Airbender movie.
I still dislike Sokka's and Katara's actors and continue to be pessimistic about the movie's chances of success. I don't like the race-fail either. But the end scene of this trailer at least felt a little like the original show.
And Momo looks okay!

Some of the people who disapprove of the casting but want to see it anyway are planning to buy tickets to other movies that are playing at the same time and watch Airbender instead.

I'm torn, though... I really want to support the IDEA of a Last Airbender movie, because the series was so good and I think it deserves mainstream attention. But I hate the racism in the casting. It's so blatant and so unfair and so... ugh!
And at this point it's a choice between refusing to support the movie (which by default means not supporting a live action ATLA in general, because it'll never get made into a movie again if this film flops) or supporting ATLA but also inadvertantly supporting the racist attitude in the casting.
Either choice is a bad one, in my opinion. It frustrates me exactly the same way that the Dark is Rising movie frustrated me; now that the crap version they made is out there and has flopped horribly, no one else will ever make a movie of it.
Why can't you just get it right from the start, Hollywood? Stop being fuckwits!

Money talks, but it doesn't always say what we want it to. I'm afraid that boycotting the movie will not say, "racism is NOT okay", but rather, "this franchise is not worth putting more money or effort into".
