First of all, to [livejournal.com profile] ladycosmos, Happy Birthday!!!! Hope it's a good day!

Secondly, I have to apologize, because I finished absolutely nothing last night, so I have no present to give you... But! I'll give you something later! I promise! It'll just be a late birthday present!

Yesterday, I once again became aware of why I don't write lemons very often. Blech.

Aside from that, not much happened, except for when I got into a very interesting discussion with V about fandoms. The bigger they get, the more divided they become. The biggest fandom I've been into was Gundam Wing, and the amount of division was insane. There were divisions even within *pairings*, over seme/uke issues, whether or not one character was a rape victim... blah blah blah. You'd think they'd band together since they all enjoy this same thing, but noooooo.

On the other hand, the most tolerant fandom I've come across is probably Fruits Basket. Even the yaoi and het fans seem to get along well. Of course, I just scratched on the surface of that one, so I don't know anything for sure...

Ultimately, I think it's these divisions that bring about the destruction of said fandoms. It certainly seems to turn people off from being involved, and members slowly drift away. So in the end they collapse.

What a crazy world.

If I were to ever finish any original work and it were somehow good enough to get published, I'd encourage fanfiction. I'd also write it myself under a fake name. Heh. Yeah, I know, I'm a loser, but I enjoy it.

Anyway, I'm finished here. Happy Birthday again, LC, and I'm sorry for not having your present ready.

Fandoms

Amen on the GW fandom. It was my first yaoi fandom (really, the first anime fandom I got into), but over the past six months I've been growing less and less tolerant of all of the crazy bashing, politics, and self-righteousness coming out of that fandom. I gave up on one of the big 3x4 mailing lists (lovetq) when they started insisting that you had to send your fanfic to their panel of pre-readers before you were allowed to post it on the ml, so that they could make certain it was up to their standards. The tqml is dead anymore these days, and it seems the only tolerant mailing list I'm on that's active is one of the 1x4 mls. Where did all of the people I used to read and love go?

Other fandoms, I can only guess.

I guess that's probably why I've been getting more and more into WK of late. I've found a friendly corner of the fandom to hide in for a bit, and for the moment I'm ignoring the crazy politics and arguments flying around the larger lists about who goes with who, yadda yadda. As far as I'm concerned, when I'm writing, *I* decide who gets paired with who, and it's my job to convince the reader that I'm right. ^_^ And if I don't like it, I just don't read it. No need to argue over it.

It's a hobby - what we do in our spare time for enjoyment. Why are people so damned pigheaded about it?

(sorry... got a little carried away in my rant...)

The more I hear about GW, the more glad I am that I never got into that fandom. It sounds like an absolute *nightmare*. People must have really, really lost persective there. And it's so sad, because in the long run . . . it's supposed to be a group of people sharing their enjoyment of an anime and their creativity, not an ego-fest and war zone.

None of the fandoms I'm in have reached that level of ugliness. If they did, I'd seriously consider leaving.

*blinks* Isn't X a really anal fandom?
