I had to share this

Fuck it. This subject is WAY too controversial.

I can't seem to say what I want to about it, either, without thinking it's come out totally wrong.

Ignore this post. PLEASE.

It's not just the whip. Let's not forget the bondage suit.

Oh my God, why does HP not have men in bondage suits?

God, I miss my Digimon days...

*eyes pile of Digimon fics* If rapefics are evil, I must be the antichrist! Although in mine, they generally got bumped up to around 16. Since 16 is the age of straight conesnt in Britian, I feel it should be the same. HOWEVER - what these people have missed is that in Japan, there is no legal age of consent (I expect there is one that everyone thinks of but it is not actually a passed law). So...actually, not underage at all! MWHAHAHAHAHA!

*creeps away in shame as she realises what she is randomly arguing for*

Ah, the Mistakes We Make. Iremember when I first read that one. It was sort of a "Wowowowowoahgh!"

I actally agree. If rape fics are done badly, they are atrocious and I'm often muttering "Er, I don't THINK so!" after reading a rape fic. But I don't think they should all be kicked off the net, partly because some are good authors that just need to learn a bit and partly because some of the fics are good. And yes, I think my fics would be good for getting me condemned to hell. Rape, the interesting variations of non-con in there and of course, the sack loads of yaoi.

13, 14, 16, 18. It's all pretty relevant.

Actually, I heard that in 1999(?) Japan passed a law to make the age of consent 13.

...

Not that, that matters any way. Where I'm from it's 14, and last I checked, a fic is only bound by the rules of the area you lived in.

Well, where I read this was published before then so you could well be right

Which would mean that most of my Digi-fics aren't below the age of consent because they were nearly all thirteen - go me!

Good point. It probably only matters if you wanted to mention if the sex in such-and-such a country was underage or not. Like that post.

Oh, rape is definitely worse the younger the victim is. If you've managed to make it to your adult life without being abused, either sexually or emotionally, you're going to have vastly more coping skills then a child in a similar situation. Also, let's not forget that when children are raped it is often by someone who not only is substantially stronger then them, but who also holds some emotional sway (such as a family member). Topping it all off, when a child is raped they usually end up being repeatedly raped by the same perp because they are aggressively intimidated into not telling.

Sorry, but if you were raped at gunpoint by a man, and then he went around later that night and raped his five-year old niece, I'd think the niece would have suffered the more horrific life-long insult. Wouldn't you agree?

No problem. *snugs* I know you are the kind of person who would have sympathy for child victims, after all. I just wanted to clarify.

*cuddles lots* Please, please, please don't feel bad. Come on, when it comes to "open mouth, insert foot" disease, I am the MASTER.

*feels bad in turn*

[identity profile] quinconcinnity.livejournal.com 2004-04-07 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Umm..actually, I agree with part of all three statements. I only like non-con if it's extraordinarily well done. I also feel that child-rape is worse than adult-rape because children are less emotionally developed.
They don't recover nearly as well as an adult in the same circumstance would.

I also occasionally get irritated by fics where all the character's are gay. It's unrealistic, and it takes some of the fun out of reading a yaoi fic for me.
Historical AU fics where it's treated as normal and everybody is happily gay really bug me, sometimes. Where is the adversity?
It wasn't like that.
Part of the appeal for me is in the taboo. The struggle against a societal norm! Bucking tradition, and throwing it in the face of those who make the rules!
Oscar Wilde was put in prison for writing a book! A book which hinted so subtly at homosexuality that a modern day reader might not catch it if they didn't know the references.
People were stoned for being gay! They were run out of towns on a rail!
I want a dose of reality in my historical fiction!

Also...it's definately the whip. And the phrase, "Seeing you squirm is so delicious."

Umm...I'm done ranting now. Sorry. *slinks off*

0.0 Not at all!
I didn't read the wank...I'm one of the lazy ones. I'm just saying rapefic isn't usually my cup of tea. Though it probably seems hypocritical of me-considering all the sexual harrassment Jyou endures in my own 'Ghost'.
I wouldn't condemn anyone for writing anything. And the 'perfectly straight characters' thing is funny. It's fanfic. They can be gay if we want them to be. The het fans pair up characters who wouldn't get together in a million years in canon all the time.

The 'all gay all the time' thing is a minor pet peeve of mine. Mostly in settings where it seems unworkable. But I love your fics, and Dragonflie's too.
I wouldn't stop reading them or fail to enjoy them just because sometimes you make all the pairings yaoi and yuri.

Though I might pause to be vaguely irritated with you around the time the fifth or sixth yaoi/yuri pairing shows up.
I acknowledge that that's my problem not yours. You can write what you want.
*gives you a cookie*
Now please don't bite my head off.

[identity profile] ashna.livejournal.com 2004-04-07 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
*snorts*
Nothing that they say makes any difference.
It's fiction. Not reality. Anybody who writes these fics will most likely shudder at the thought of anything bad happening to somebody in reality.
*raises hand* I've written rape fics. Rape happening in reality? I want to kill the *edit out much swearing and profanity*
Either somebody is exploring a fantasy using the characters (to find MANY people like this outside the fandom community just check out bondage.com. LOTS of rape fantasy floating around there!) . Or they're exploring the phycological issues.
So yeah. That person needs to mind their own buisness. And maybe perhaps not read fics they don't aprove of and find ones they do?

[identity profile] ashna.livejournal.com 2004-04-07 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL
What was the point you were trying to make than?
Keep it simple and in a few lines. Isolate your main points.

Than you expand upon them. Like in an essay. Than come back to that point. Than you'll know you made your point clearly.

The idea in a discussion is to get your idea out there. Not to sway everyone else TO your idea. That's pretty much impossible.

[identity profile] ashna.livejournal.com 2004-04-07 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
lol which is why I say Plan your thoughts before saying them. Like you would in a fic. Plan your words to make the most impact if being clear in your opinion is important to you.
Also don't back down.
There will be people who misinterpret you or disagree. It happens to the best of writters.

Rape = bad excuse for angst
I think I've told you before, but I really hate bad angst. And nothing screams bad angst like rapefics. Which also means that MY avoidance of rapefics is completely oposite to those people.

Fun thing is, CharlesRocketboy got himself banned from Pokemopolis because he was a male chauvenist moron (if I remember correctly, it was when they realized that he wasn't joking when he said some very, very dumb things about rape. And not things like he says in THAT post). And Lord Archive wrote that fic with Davis and TK getting drunk, drugging Kari, and raping her analy and vaginaly. I guess the deep plot of his was that Davis said that drugs were bad in the end, then *g*

As for the boys being gay or not... I tend to be more upset over the fact that all the GIRLS always end up straight -_-;
