Favorite Anime Characters
Oct. 18th, 2002 07:59 amHmm... looks like I got up a little early today. Hehe... oh well.
Anyway, since I don't have much else to talk about, I thought I'd discuss my favorite anime characters. Because... well... why not?
We'll start at the beginning - my very first anime. Digimon season one. (I still have a soft spot in my heart for this one) My favorite character was Izzy, or Koushiro, or whatever you prefer to call him. Dude! He had a pineapple laptop! I wanted that thing, okay? He also had combined two of what would become my favorite anime characteristics: extreme smarts and red hair. The kid knew everything! And his hair was RED. Bright red. And spiky. He was such a cutie, too! (there's another characteristic to add to the favorites list) Looking for Izzy fics actually gave me my first introduction to yaoi, as well... a Jyoushiro fic by Dana-chan.
Needless to say, I was impressed.
I was kinda bored with season two at first, so I went from season one to Pokemon. I admit, I hated this show at first. The main character didn't impress me too much... but then I ran into Gary (or Shigeru, whatever). Dude! Red hair! And he was so cool... maybe not smart like Izzy, but cool all the same. That was when I decided I wanted to see him hook up with the main character. Mmm... yaoi... gotta love it. That one lasted me several happy months... very much fun.
However, as I was starting to lose interest in actually watching the show, some of my friends suggested a few others. Card Captors for one (which is a *crappy* dub) and Gundam Wing for another. Card Captors, I liked, but it wasn't obsession material. Gundam Wing... that turned out to be another story. I actually watched the first episode first this time, too. And I ran into Quatre. He wasn't red-headed... but he was intelligent. Quietly intelligent. Add another thing to the favorite characteristics. Quiet, modest... highly unlike Gary. Or even Izzy. I liked it, though. And then there was Trowa... droolworthy Trowa... and they made SUCH a nice couple. I loved it!
However, there were only so many episodes of Gundam Wing, and when the fanfiction all started sounding the same to me, I went looking for new entertainment. Actually, I didn't really. I was over at a friend's house and we stayed up until the wee hours of the morning - when an episode of Digimon season two came on. My first introduction to DNA Digivolving - or, as it was originally called, the Jogress Evolution. There was Daisuke. There was Ken. Both cuties. And there were some undeniable yaoi things going on with them. Now, combined, Ken and Daisuke were perfect. Daisuke had reddish spiky hair, and he was utterly cute natured and upbeat. (add some new things to the favorite characteristics) Ken was quietly intelligent. (okay, when he was evil he wasn't so modest, but still) And they were the perfect couple. So close, good friends, having the hearts beating at the same time thing... it was great.
That one lasted for a while, but I was introduced to the fine art of downloading anime by someone on a list of mine who suggested I watch Gravitation. After downloading that, I wanted to find *more*. So I searched on KaZaA. That was when I found that I could get an entire anime series without having to watch the dub on television.
Needless to say, this pleased me.
I found Weiss Kreuz on the site of a Gundam Wing writer, Jade. She had a couple I thought sounded interesting on her site, actually - Weiss Kreuz and Fushigi Yuugi. I decided to download them both, but wound up staying with just Weiss Kreuz. I admit, looking at pictures, I already picked Omi out to be my favorite. He was adorable! And a computer genius. And quietly intelligent. Oh yeah... Aya had the red hair, and I still think he's hot, but Omi was also cute and upbeat, so he was perfect. I downloaded the show and went looking for yaoi concerning Omi. I came very, very close to liking Aya and Omi, actually... but then I saw episode 14, and that sorta shattered that. It was *Ken* whose head was resting in Omi's lap after the fight, *Ken* who drove through a rain of bullets just to rescue Omi. I joined a KenxOmi mailing list, read a few fics, and decided they were perfect.
Which only increased my liking for Omi. And now Ken was up there on the favorites list, too.
That's about where I stand right now. At least with anime. Games and manga are another story, but I'll leave that alone for the moment.
Mmm... I want my Ken and Omi desktop dolls.
