This response to a whiny post about how "no one will play with me on XBox Live is made of win.

It applies to life, too. Don't act like you own people's time. They will start to dislike you.

Reading this article really gave me a case of the warm fuzzies. It's good to hear about people who are that kind to others.

My website is not currently working properly, because I accidentally uploaded the index.php file for the new anime club website I'm working on into the directory where my main website is hosted, overwriting my main website's index.php file. I didn't notice this until now, when I'm at work for five and a half more hours and can't access my web host.

So... yeah... I'll fix it when I get home, but for now, the website's come down with a severe case of dumbass webmaster.

Erk....

So, I watched a couple of episodes of the Ghost Hunt dub last night... It wasn't bad. I really liked most of the supporting characters. Monk and Ayako were pretty much spot-on; I enjoyed their performance. Masako's seemed to fit her character, and so did Lin's. John was freakin' excellent! I love the Australian accent! I was really hoping they'd do that for him, because he is actually supposed to be Australian, after all. I could listen to him talk forever. He's not even my favorite character, although he's up on the list. But my favorite character (Monk) got decent treatment, too. I'm pleased.

Mai was all right; I liked that she didn't try to copy the Japanese voice actor and her timing and flow were good, but she sometimes was a little annoying. Naru's voice got on my nerves the majority of the time. So... not all sunshine and roses. But overall, they had dub actors who seemed to really care about what they were doing and put the effort in to make it seem natural and flow well.

So, not bad at all. Another good job from Funimation. I still prefer the Japanese version, but I saw that one first, so it's only natural, after all.

I'll be interested to see what the Ouran dub is like, since that's the next series I'll be getting on DVD.

Hm... this HikaGo meme went around a while back, but I never got around to doing it. My interest in HikaGo was kind of temporarily rekindled after I got the latest manga volume and then looked up some old doujins.

So... here we go.

Does anyone know what the heck happened to the North American Hikaru no Go anime releases? It just kind of stopped at Volume 11, and that was back in November 2007. I was hoping I'd be able to get some box sets for the series, but now it looks like they don't even plan to finish it.

Bleh.

Ghost Hunt

I just got the first DVD box set of Ghost Hunt. I have to say, I'm impressed with this new idea of Funimation's. It seems that they will be releasing their series in 13-episode box sets from now on. This means I don't have to wait forever to collect them, because - let's face it - I'm not ever going to be doing the individual DVD thing. I did it with FMA, but I totally regret that decision. As long as whoever is releasing the series makes a box set for it, I'm happy.

Anyway, Ghost Hunt (and Ouran High School Host Club) appear to be split into two box sets. The sets are extremely small (almost the size of an individual DVD) and they include two thinpak DVDs each. They are perfect for storing. I hate large box sets for smaller series. I only have to put Peach Girl and Escaflowne beside each other to realize how much I hate this. Peach Girl's box is an inch wide. Escaflowne's is three or four inches. They have the same number of episodes, damnit!

But, anyway.

Thoughts on Ghost Hunt. Spoilerish for stuff beyond the anime )

I finished watching Honey and Clover II this afternoon.

What a fabulous and moving series... I really enjoyed this one. It made me tear up in places and giggle occasionally, but the characters were great and the story was great, and - well. It was very sweet, and very pretty. The revelation at the end is so powerful.

Definitely well worth the watch.

I've decided that since I have such a big hard drive now, I'm just going to keep several series sitting there for when I want to watch stuff. I have Seirei no Moribito if I feel like a historical piece with a strong female protagonist. I have Tantei Gakuen Q for a fun detective series. I have Romeo x Juliet for medieval tragic romance with a fantasy edge. I have Itazura na Kiss for a shoujo romance. I have Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu for a shounen romance. And I have Lucky Star for comedy.

If I feel like adding any other genres, there's still plenty more space, too.

Yay!

Just watched part of the English dub for episode one of Gurren Lagann.

FAIL.

It's not that it was all that horrible or anything... It was just missing the attitude the Japanese voice actors put into their characters. These English voice actors can't even begin to match it. They just don't have the same zing. And that's really what makes Gurren Lagann so fun to watch.

The most disappointing voice among them all was Kamina's. He lost what made him the Kamina we all know and love, and just because of a change in voice. The Japanese voice actor really made that character.

Anyway, my advice on this one is give the dub a pass and buy the subtitle-only set that Bandai so courteously released for us. Otherwise you're just wasting your money.

Normally when I start a post about a series, I have fairly well planned out the way I want to organize it. In this case, I just know I want to say some things. I know that this series was awesome in a way that words can't express. I know it played with my emotions, and drew out my tears and my laughter and my spirit like nothing else I've seen in any kind of story, ever. I would recommend this series to anyone, and if they didn't like it, their loss.

We'll see where it goes from there.

And all this without mentioning the kickass soundtrack! But don't take my word for it... go and watch this show. I mean it - do it. Now.

Here are the first and second opening themes (same song, different verse and sequence):

I made some new icons with pictures from Gurren Lagann. The one I'm using is one of them.

Just thought I'd share.
silverthunder: (Daisuke - YES!)
I watched the last three episodes of Gurren Lagann last night with Cody, Ty, and Anika.

... epic.

That's all I have to say for now. Maybe I'll make a post on it later. Not sure yet at the moment, but yeah, it was very good.

Once again the Princess Tutu fandom surprises me with its amazing anime music videos. What is it with this series? Some series I can't find a good vid to save my life, and in this one I have five that I absolutely adore.

In any case, the purpose of this post is to share this video, which is beautifully done and shows off the fairy-tale motif. I am a sucker for this sort of thing...

I recommend it to anyone who is a fan of fairytales in general, rather than just to Princess Tutu fans. It's beautiful, and the song (the one I'm currently listening to) is absolutely gorgeous.

Well. The vet visit is over. It went well. Quiz is very calm in the carrier, and was totally into exploring the vet room. The shot didn't even seem to cause much distress. The initial vaccination and de-worming is done, and I learned something rather important.

Quiz is not a girl. Quiz is a boy.

... well, okay then.

Neutering is less expensive than spaying, so... yay? Haha!
