Doujinshi

I was thinking about scanning some of my doujinshi and putting up a page on my website where people can either download zip files or view pictures (if anyone has thoughts on which of these options is better, let me know). I want to know if anyone's interested, though... and what they'd be most interested in, since it will take a long time to scan most of these (my scanner kinda sucks).

[livejournal.com profile] tsaiko! I got your card! You didn't sign it, but I cleverly deduced that it was from you. Yes. Cleverly.

Anyway, thank you very much! It's pretty and I feel special now. And I'm reminded that I graduate! Yay!

It's been a good day.
silverthunder: (Daisuke - YES!)
Merry Christmas to those who celebrate and Happy Holidays to everyone else!

Hope it's a wonderful day for everyone involved!

Okay, it was a conversation with V that spawned this... We were talking about female characters we relate to or admire. I started thinking about which females in anime that I actually like, and why. So I decided to post something about it. I picked out five female characters (not necessarily the top five, just five I like for different reasons) and summarized why I like them.

Luna (Uninhabited Planet Survive) )

Bisuke (Hunter X Hunter) )

Haruhi (Ouran High School Host Club) )

Tohru (Fruits Basket) )

Ruki (Digimon Tamers) )

I was just watching Uninhabited Planet Survive again, and remembered how much I love that series. The characters seem so different at the beginning from how they turn out in the end, and yet they are so familiar. I remember how much I underestimated Bell, how much I hated Howard, how I thought Sharla was so useless, how Kaoru was always SO damn quiet... And Luna, Menori, and Shingo seemed so typical of their character types.

I love them all. Such wonderful characters, who I got to know so well... It's great to revisit.

I want to further urge anyone who might be the slightest bit curious to watch at least the first episode. If you stick with the series, you won't be sorry.
silverthunder: (Gon - Just chillin')
I don't know why I keep taking these. They're fun in a way, but they're random at the same time. It's a luck of the draw thing, but it tricks people into thinking they're real because when you see the answer, something in your head tries to make it make sense, and then you think 'oh wow, that's so accurate'.

Anyway, if anyone is bored, take the quiz first and then read my answers. More fun that way. Or so it would seem.

In other news, Tetris is totally working. Woot! It's impossible to win, but it works. I'll be making it so that you can rotate camera angles and look at it from all sides and also from the top, which *might* make it a *little* easier.

I tried enabling the lighting and materials last night, and now all the blocks are black. Haha... I probably screwed up on calculating surface normals or something. But no more work is getting done on that until I finish my philosophy paper.

Almost done...
silverthunder: (Bisuke - Kick some ass)
So, even though I'm insanely busy and don't have time for lots of stuff, I've managed to squeeze in time for anime. Mostly at work when there's no one else here, on YouTube.

I took a couple of recommendations from Cody to expand my anime viewing experience. Normally I prefer shounen or shoujo anime, with a couple of gothic series here and there. I also like wistful stories, moderate humor, and romance. I'll go with the occasional harem anime as long as it's one girl and lots of boys (yes, I'm a little one-sided in my choice of fanservice). I don't generally like them as a rule, though, and pretty well tend to hate them when it's one boy and lots of girls. It's an unreasoning prejudice of mine. For this reason, I avoid most hentai and ecchi series because they're usually aimed at guys, and guys like the idea of the many beautiful girls with one man to enjoy it. I particularly avoid them if they were made out of an adult game designed for men.

Recently, though, I watched not one but TWO series made from adult games designed for men. They were short series, so I watched all the way through. And this is what I thought.

I don't think I'll be watching any more of these types of series any time in the near future. They're just not for me.
silverthunder: (Ken - Um... sure...)
I'm basically only making a second post today because I've decided I'm going to work on my Philosophy paper in my free time at work and now I want to procrastinate. Whee...

I finished some new (to me) titles by David Eddings a while back, but never bothered to say anything about them because it never occurred to me until now (when I'm looking for stuff to keep me from doing actual work - go figure).

Random book stuff (minor spoilers) )
silverthunder: (Leorio and Kurapika - Lazy days)
The long weekend is over... back to work and school. Meh. I have lots to do, but for once I'm feeling fairly confident that I'll manage to get it all done. The end of the semester is less than three weeks away, and by Monday, December 4th, everything will be handed in and there will be only one final exam left to face.

That's a comforting thought.

Cody starts at BCLC today... I'm nervous and excited for him. I hope everything goes well.

Also, like I promised, here are the answers to the meme I did last week.
silverthunder: (Laccus - Shimmer)
I've been doing some random doodles lately, and Cody has suggested that I get a DeviantArt account to host stuff. I figured I might as well, but my usual user names (Aphrael and Silver Thunder) aren't available.

Anyone have a suggestion for a name? I was thinking about going with my FFXI name, Athynn, but I dunno if it's a good one for this.

Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] sailormac: Summarize 10 of your fandoms in one sentence, then see who on your friend's list can guess each fandom.

I decided to screen comments for this one, so only I can see people's replies (and no one can cheat by looking at guesses made by someone else). I'll provide the answers next week some time. I think they'll be fairly easy, though.

What he said, because I'm too lazy to come up with my own stuff. I'm not American, but I still pay at least some passing attention to American politics.

I know I have at least one or two American friends who are Republican voters, so watch out for the pro-Democrat in there if you are one of them. Just don't forget to vote on Tuesday. Every person counts.
silverthunder: (Shingo - Discover)
I just recently decided to replace the third DVD in my Uninhabited Planet Survive set (it's been missing for a while, and I finally gave up on trying to find it), and figured since I was buying cheap DVDs, I might as well pick up some other stuff.

I've already decided to go for Ouran High School Host Club (who knows how long I'll be able to get fansubbed DVDs of it), and was kind of idly poking around through other stuff, when I came across a title someone on my friends list mentioned some time ago... It caught my attention, so I figured I'd download an episode (not that I actually have the time to watch it, but I'm procrastinating anyway) and see if it's worth spending $7.25 per DVD on (with 13 episodes per DVD).

So, I'm about to watch the first episode of Honey and Clover, and figured I'd make a post asking for opinions. If anyone's seen it, would you like to leave me a comment with a yay or nay vote for the purchase? Maybe even a little something about what's good or bad about the series? It'd be nice to hear something about it.

Also, if anyone has any suggestions on what to buy (only unlicensed anime is available), by all means, give me a recommendation! I'd love to hear about it.
silverthunder: (Al - Smirk)
I can't believe it's Halloween already... Yeesh. Seems like time's going by so fast now.

Ah well. I have a fairly busy day ahead of me - first work, then class, then lab, and then rushing home to get changed into the costume before we head out to the Fun Factor for a party similar to last year's. My camera has film, too, so hopefully I'll get pictures (and yes, I realize I haven't yet posted con pictures. I'll get to it one day...).

I'm dressing up as Kurapika again, mainly because I didn't have time to come up with a new costume - even a simple one. Cody's going as Ed again, too, even though his hair is short now. Yay for originality!

In any case, it'll be fun. I'm looking forward to it all.
silverthunder: (Daisuke - YES!)
Cody's birthday present was shipped this morning! Estimated delivery time is 3-4 weeks, so if all goes well it should be here before November 18th. I can't wait to see his face when he opens it, I'm sure he'll love it!

Also, V is here today and we are meeting for lunch after I get off work! My class was cancelled, and I have all afternoon to spend time with my friend.

Today is a good day.
silverthunder: (Kaoru - Sexy)
My poetry is done, my essay (question set) is pushed back to next week Friday, my midterm isn't until Thursday, and I am free to procrastinate!

Has anyone who is reading this entry read D.Gray-Man? If so, what pairings do you like or dislike? Can you rec me any fanfics? Fanart? Scanlated doujinshi? The pairing doesn't matter; there doesn't even have to be a pairing. I'm up for anything at the moment; I have no preferences.

Homework Status...

Two poems - done.
Essay - ready to be outlined.

D.Gray-man chapter 67 - downloading.
Thoughts on the series - OMG KICKASS!!!
Randomness - Red hair and eyepatch = teh awesomeness. I love. Muchly.

New series! So to speak.

Okay, so while I was at work, I decided to read some manga online (instead of doing my poetry homework - I know, I'm bad). I kind of debated for a while between Peacemaker Kurogane and D.Gray-man, which were both series I'd been meaning to check out, and finally settled on D.Gray-man.

Much love! I'm glad I downloaded the (newly released) first episode of the anime now.

Anyway, so. I read 18 chapters, and then stayed in lab until 8:30 to finish my assignment so that I could go home and watch the first episode and see what it was like. Because the manga series is pretty darn cool.

I watched the opening theme, watched the first thirty seconds or so, heard Allen's voice, and had to pause so I could go check Anime News Network.

Touya Akira from Hikaru no Go.

The comparison is amusing. I'm not sure that's exactly what I imagined for his voice. I checked out a few others, and found that Kanda's voice is also Yuri from Kyou Kara Maou, Linali (or Rinali, whichever) is also Himawari from xxxHolic, Scar/Treize/Dark/etc's voice is in there (just like in about 70% of all anime) as someone whose name I don't recognize, and the rest I think I may have yet to meet (or at least to remember their names).

Anyway, so far I'm liking the series. The manga is awesome. The animation looks pretty neat, and I figure I can probably get used to Touya Akira as Allen, so the anime is probably going to be pretty okay too. The first episode at least seemed fairly close to the manga, although it looks from the preview as if they're going to skip the second arc. The music for the opening and ending themes is also nothing special, but that's all right.
