Guess who just bought Dragonlance: Dragons of Autumn Twilight the animated film?

These books were classic! Some of the first fantasy I ever read, and the series Sim and I spent hours with in our early high school years. I heard it was being made into an animated film, but I seriously didn't know it was already out! What a great surprise!

I am so making Cody watch this with me! It'll be awesome!

Ghost Hunt

Well, I just made an 'Anime Reviews' section in my Memories, so I decided I'd do yet another review that I've been meaning to for a while.

Ghost Hunt: Scary Stories in Animated Form (and yes, most of them are actually scary) )

I recommend this series for anyone who likes ghost stories, mysteries, and good anime with fun characters. It was a really good show. I'm hoping like hell for a second season. And a third. And so on. This one could go on for a while, and I'd still love it.

The first opening video can be found here. There's not much difference in the second video. I really like the creepy song, but the video doesn't tell you anything about the series (except that it's kinda creepy - and somehow the song really fits the ghost hunting theme).

On a completely unrelated note, I absolutely adore this song I'm listening to. It plays during the very last moments of the very last Kaleido Star OVA (Legend of Phoenix), and it's beautiful.

Website...

silverthunder: (Menori - So not impressed)
Right now, my website is not working. My host seems to be down. I can't even access their site, and I can't email them for support because their support email is on their own domain (which doesn't seem to be available).

Not sure what the problem is, but I'm going to wait it out for a while longer before looking at other possible hosts. In the meantime, if you want to read any of my fics, you might need to contact me. I'm not sure any more what I have up in other places.

The nice thing about having my own domain is that even if my host dies and I have to move everything, at least I won't have to change the website address everywhere.
silverthunder: (Nerine - Oh so lovely)
Been a while since I updated... I've just been lazy, really.

I haven't been lazy about my anime viewing, though - and here's another one of those reviews to prove it. This time for an anime I haven't actually finished yet. I usually don't do that, but I felt like it this time.

Kaleido Star )

I watched ten episodes in one day for this series... That should tell you something about how much I liked it. I intend to watch more of it on my day off tomorrow, too. Maybe I'll even finish the series off.

Openings themes can be found here: the first half of season one, the second half of season one, and season two.

So I was adding some new interests to my LJ profile and found myself feeling defensive every time I typed a female name, thinking, basically, FUCK YOU, SHE'S AWESOME, because I felt as if someone somewhere was going to be criticizing my love for them.

So,anyway, then I made a list of women who make me want to say FUCK YOU, SHE'S AWESOME. They are far from the only women who are awesome, or the only women people need to be told to step off of, but they are the top ten I feel that way about, right now, off the top of my head.

If you want to argue with me about the awesomeness of any of these women, I am afraid I will simply be referring you to the subject line. THAT IS ALL.

(I grouped mine by series as well so I'd have more space)

1. Luna, Menori - Uninhabited Planet Survive
2. Layla, Sora - Kaleido Star
3. Asa - Shuffle
4. Himeno - Pretear
5. Riza, Izumi - Fullmetal Alchemist
6. Ruki - Digimon Tamers
7. Tohru - Fruits Basket
8. Youko - Twelve Kingdoms
9. Ohno, Saki, Ogiue - Genshiken
10. Ahiru - Princess Tutu

I need more than ten!

Argh...

Funimation licensed Ghost Hunt!?!?!?!?!?

Fuck. That means no box set for it either.

Goddamnit! I hate Funimation and their lack of neat compact little box sets! Don't they know my shelf space is limited?
silverthunder: (Lavi - Ooh... sparkly...)
I have been re-watching Shuffle recently, and realized that I've never actually talked about Shuffle in this journal. Which is odd, because when Cody showed it to me, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's probably my favorite harem anime - and while I realize this isn't saying much considering how little I like harem anime, I honestly did love watching the series. It's one of the ones I want to buy on DVD.

Shuffle Review )

(Note: the opening video for Shuffle can be found here, for those who are interested. I like the song very much)

With that whole review out of the way, I now feel ready to admit that my plan for Anime Evolution is now to cosplay as Nerine.

I want to see an anime couple that knocks my socks off. Or however you want to put it.

So, I'm asking for suggestions, if anyone has any. What anime couples do you really feel strongly about, from which series? Doesn't matter if it's yaoi, yuri or het. If I haven't seen it, maybe I'll give it a try! I want something that can make my heart race to watch! It doesn't have to be a romance anime or anything, I just want something with a pairing that'll get me really interested.

On an unrelated note, this is a really pretty song despite the fact that the anime doesn't look like something I'd like.
silverthunder: (Himeno - Grrr... Argh...)
I have an issue with Funimation.

I've recently become a sort of collector of anime sets - I like to buy box sets of anime I like on DVD. ADV is my favorite for this because they make those nice thinpak sets. Other companies have made similar, neat little sets that I can store easily and use for access to all of my favorite episodes in any particular series.

Funimation has been pissing me off recently because they don't seem to understand the concept of 'compact'. They released four box sets for Fullmetal Alchemist, which would basically take up about three quarters of the space that the complete set of DVDs takes up. It could have easily been just one or two box sets instead, because FMA is not that huge of a series. I suspect Funimation just likes the idea of squeezing as much money as they can from the many, many fans of this series more than providing convenience for those of us who don't have much shelf space.

Two other series I really would like to purchase, Mushishi and Utawarerumono, have been fully released on DVD (with cardboard "artboxes" included at ridiculous extra costs) by Funimation, but no box sets have been listed yet. I'm starting to think there won't be any, and this pisses me off to the point where I don't even want to buy the series from them. And now Funimation is releasing Shuffle, to which I respond with 'goddamnit!' because that means I won't get a neat little box set for it either.

It isn't about saving money. I'd gladly pay the same amount for the box set that I would for the whole set of DVDs. It's about convenience. I collect box sets, not individual DVDs, because the less space the series takes up on my shelf, the more I have for other series.

I like to support the official licensors of anime (that way they'll bring more anime over), but I'm at the point of looking for bootleg sets of the sub/dub for Funimation's series because they fail so utterly at providing me with what I want.

Well... I finally got around to posting the last bit of this little showdown, so here's the final match and the answer to which anime could be considered my favorite of all time. I feel like I have to thank [livejournal.com profile] herongale yet again because she introduced me to both of the final two. She has fabulous taste.

Mushishi vs Uninhabited Planet Survive )

And after that, because I felt like doing it, I decided to pick my top five episodes from the winner and describe why I like them. So, here:

Top Five Episodes )
silverthunder: (Himeno - Hee)
I'm watching a new series. It's called Ghost Hunt. I like it very much.

I'll post more when I finish watching it, but so far it's been great to watch. Supernatural activity + mystery + fun characters = good anime. I'm going to be sorry when I've watched it all.

I'm sure I'll end up buying the manga once I'm finished with the anime. It really is good.
silverthunder: (Hibiki - Serious Thinking)
Just to reiterate, I'm not planning on leaving LJ, even with the recent unpleasantness. I probably won't update tomorrow, but my update schedule is sporadic at best and I probably won't have anything to put up anyway, so it's no inconvenience to me.

So, yeah. For the time being, I'm staying with LJ. The loss of the basic account thing sucks for new users, yeah, and the fact that they didn't say anything about it is also pretty retarded of them, but it looks to me like InsaneJournal is even worse, so there's no point in leaving.

At least not for me.
silverthunder: (Hibiki and Dita - Strong Together)
This is the second to last post on this little time-waster... It's been fun. But it's almost over now.

Vandread

silverthunder: (Bisuke - SQUEE!)
Okay. As of last night, I have seen all of Vandread, barring the OVAs which I heard are mostly summaries with a few additional scenes mixed in. In any case, the storyline has finished and I have watched all of the episodes. No more new material.

So, now I can post my thoughts on the series.

Click the cut for my opinion on Vandread )

I'm also seriously tempted to write Vandread fanfic, but I won't say too much about that because I don't know if it'll actually happen. I did start writing an original story that steals the idea of the male/female separation, but again, I don't know if it'll go anywhere yet.

We'll have to wait and see, I guess.

Comment to this entry with any fandom. If I'm knowledgeable enough in the fandom to have ships, I'll tell you one non-canon ship I like, one canon ship I like, and one ship I really don't like (either canon OR fanon). Then post this in your own journal to offer up the same responses.
silverthunder: (Sinbad and Jeanne - Mine)
I was randomly thinking about this a little while ago... the first time I ever posted a fanfic I wrote in a public place looking for comments. Not the first time I wrote one (like most people, I feel I'm better off not discussing that), but the first time I submitted it for C&C.

Yeah, I'm going to make you click on a cut tag for details )

Does anyone else feel like sharing their first fanfic posting experience? I'm curious!
