silverthunder: (Leorio and Kurapika - Lazy days)
The long weekend is over... back to work and school. Meh. I have lots to do, but for once I'm feeling fairly confident that I'll manage to get it all done. The end of the semester is less than three weeks away, and by Monday, December 4th, everything will be handed in and there will be only one final exam left to face.

That's a comforting thought.

Cody starts at BCLC today... I'm nervous and excited for him. I hope everything goes well.

Also, like I promised, here are the answers to the meme I did last week.
silverthunder: (Laccus - Shimmer)
I've been doing some random doodles lately, and Cody has suggested that I get a DeviantArt account to host stuff. I figured I might as well, but my usual user names (Aphrael and Silver Thunder) aren't available.

Anyone have a suggestion for a name? I was thinking about going with my FFXI name, Athynn, but I dunno if it's a good one for this.

Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] sailormac: Summarize 10 of your fandoms in one sentence, then see who on your friend's list can guess each fandom.

I decided to screen comments for this one, so only I can see people's replies (and no one can cheat by looking at guesses made by someone else). I'll provide the answers next week some time. I think they'll be fairly easy, though.

What he said, because I'm too lazy to come up with my own stuff. I'm not American, but I still pay at least some passing attention to American politics.

I know I have at least one or two American friends who are Republican voters, so watch out for the pro-Democrat in there if you are one of them. Just don't forget to vote on Tuesday. Every person counts.

I just recently decided to replace the third DVD in my Uninhabited Planet Survive set (it's been missing for a while, and I finally gave up on trying to find it), and figured since I was buying cheap DVDs, I might as well pick up some other stuff.

I've already decided to go for Ouran High School Host Club (who knows how long I'll be able to get fansubbed DVDs of it), and was kind of idly poking around through other stuff, when I came across a title someone on my friends list mentioned some time ago... It caught my attention, so I figured I'd download an episode (not that I actually have the time to watch it, but I'm procrastinating anyway) and see if it's worth spending $7.25 per DVD on (with 13 episodes per DVD).

So, I'm about to watch the first episode of Honey and Clover, and figured I'd make a post asking for opinions. If anyone's seen it, would you like to leave me a comment with a yay or nay vote for the purchase? Maybe even a little something about what's good or bad about the series? It'd be nice to hear something about it.

Also, if anyone has any suggestions on what to buy (only unlicensed anime is available), by all means, give me a recommendation! I'd love to hear about it.

I can't believe it's Halloween already... Yeesh. Seems like time's going by so fast now.

Ah well. I have a fairly busy day ahead of me - first work, then class, then lab, and then rushing home to get changed into the costume before we head out to the Fun Factor for a party similar to last year's. My camera has film, too, so hopefully I'll get pictures (and yes, I realize I haven't yet posted con pictures. I'll get to it one day...).

I'm dressing up as Kurapika again, mainly because I didn't have time to come up with a new costume - even a simple one. Cody's going as Ed again, too, even though his hair is short now. Yay for originality!

In any case, it'll be fun. I'm looking forward to it all.
silverthunder: (Daisuke - YES!)
Cody's birthday present was shipped this morning! Estimated delivery time is 3-4 weeks, so if all goes well it should be here before November 18th. I can't wait to see his face when he opens it, I'm sure he'll love it!

Also, V is here today and we are meeting for lunch after I get off work! My class was cancelled, and I have all afternoon to spend time with my friend.

Today is a good day.

My poetry is done, my essay (question set) is pushed back to next week Friday, my midterm isn't until Thursday, and I am free to procrastinate!

Has anyone who is reading this entry read D.Gray-Man? If so, what pairings do you like or dislike? Can you rec me any fanfics? Fanart? Scanlated doujinshi? The pairing doesn't matter; there doesn't even have to be a pairing. I'm up for anything at the moment; I have no preferences.

Homework Status...

Two poems - done.

D.Gray-man chapter 67 - downloading.
Thoughts on the series - OMG KICKASS!!!
Randomness - Red hair and eyepatch = teh awesomeness. I love. Muchly.
silverthunder: (Bisuke - SQUEE!)
New series! So to speak.

Okay, so while I was at work, I decided to read some manga online (instead of doing my poetry homework - I know, I'm bad). I kind of debated for a while between Peacemaker Kurogane and D.Gray-man, which were both series I'd been meaning to check out, and finally settled on D.Gray-man.

Much love! I'm glad I downloaded the (newly released) first episode of the anime now.

Anyway, so. I read 18 chapters, and then stayed in lab until 8:30 to finish my assignment so that I could go home and watch the first episode and see what it was like. Because the manga series is pretty darn cool.

I watched the opening theme, watched the first thirty seconds or so, heard Allen's voice, and had to pause so I could go check Anime News Network.

Touya Akira from Hikaru no Go.

The comparison is amusing. I'm not sure that's exactly what I imagined for his voice. I checked out a few others, and found that Kanda's voice is also Yuri from Kyou Kara Maou, Linali (or Rinali, whichever) is also Himawari from xxxHolic, Scar/Treize/Dark/etc's voice is in there (just like in about 70% of all anime) as someone whose name I don't recognize, and the rest I think I may have yet to meet (or at least to remember their names).

Anyway, so far I'm liking the series. The manga is awesome. The animation looks pretty neat, and I figure I can probably get used to Touya Akira as Allen, so the anime is probably going to be pretty okay too. The first episode at least seemed fairly close to the manga, although it looks from the preview as if they're going to skip the second arc. The music for the opening and ending themes is also nothing special, but that's all right.

I am feeling much better now. Well enough, at any rate, to pick up meme/quizzes from [livejournal.com profile] herongale

Ask me a question about each (or just one) of the following:

1. Friends
2. Sex
3. Music
4. Drugs
5. Love
6. LiveJournal

No matter how rude, sexual, or confidential. Then post this in your journal and see what questions you get asked.

Yes, I know I've done this one before. I want to do it again.

The Rules: First, write down the names of 12 characters. Then read and answer the questions. You can't look at the questions (or click on the cut) until you write down the 12 characters you're going to use.

1) Yukito (Card Captor Sakura)
2) Lady Une (Gundam Wing)
3) Takato (Digimon Tamers)
4) Akira (Hikaru no Go)
5) Alphonse (Fullmetal Alchemist)
6) Ken (Digimon 02)
7) Ging (Hunter X Hunter)
8) Tomo (Azumanga Daioh)
9) Zechs (Gundam Wing)
10) Satoshi (D.N.Angel)
11) Fai (Tsubasa Chronicles)
12) Husky (+Anima)

Hee. That was fun.
silverthunder: (Alphonse - I'll pass)
LiveJournal has released a feature that allows users to track journals and posts without listing the journal among your friends. Basically, you click a button and BOOM! All posts on the journal or all comments on the post (depending on which you're tracking) are sent to your email.

Sound harmless? Well, maybe.

I think it's creepy. I'm already about 90% friends-only; only the fluff posts and memes are left un-friends-locked, and those who don't comment to me and let me know they want to know the boring details of my daily life don't get added as friends. But still.

Suppose I make a public post - for whatever reason; I have friends who don't have LJs and I link them to certain posts sometimes - and someone wishes to make a comment on it that's really only meant for me. The easiest way to do this has always been to comment and then quickly delete it. That way I get it in my email but no one else sees it. Well, now someone COULD see it, because if you're watching a post, you get those comments in your email as well.

Not to mention the fact that I'm sure we've all had those moments when we post something and then think 'oops' and delete it because it's not necessarily something we want everyone seeing. 'Oops' isn't going to cut it if someone's already watching you, is it?

At the very least, I think we should be informed when someone is stalking our journals or our posts, and who those people are. Paranoia could sink in pretty fast otherwise.

[livejournal.com profile] anax provided a nice handy link to the release post for those who would like to express their concerns. I've already expressed mine.

Look at your LJ userpics list. If you have fewer than 50 icons, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and seventy-five icons, pick every seventh one. If you have over seventy-five icons, pick every tenth one. If you have fewer than ten, pick all of 'em. List them on your LJ, and tell everyone exactly why you have it, why it's interesting to you, and what significance it has.

Go here and look through random quotes until you find 5 or 10 (or however many you want) that you think reflect who you are or what you believe. Repost in your journal and tag five friends.

There were a bunch of others, but I forced myself to stay limited to ten. I could've spent a lot of time at that site picking them all out.

Anime Evolution is one week from now...

I must find random snatches of time to watch Ouran High School Host Club, because it sounds deliciously cracky and if I decide I love it I want the opportunity to find stuff for it at the con. Most excellent.

Other than that, I'll probably be looking for stuff that catches my eye from Fullmetal Alchemist, Hunter X Hunter, Digimon (any season), Gundam Wing, Tsubasa Chronicles, Hikaru no Go, Uninhabited Planet Survive (not that there will be anything, but if by some odd chance I see it, I'm so buying), and possibly Azumanga Daioh.

Plus, you never know what else I might find. I'm sure there will be treasures.

Ed's dub voice actor will be there. I am bringing my poster of Ed and getting him to sign it. And I will be happy.

Other than Artist's Alley, the venders, and the autograph booths, I'll have the cosplay on Monday and some AMVs to catch. I haven't decided which panels I'm going to try and make it to (basically because I have yet to see the con schedule), but I'm sure there will be a few of those as well.

It will be fantastically delicious (to steal a phrase from Jer). I'm psyched.
silverthunder: (Daisuke - YES!)
I passed my driver's test!

I am a fully licensed driver now. No more tests! And I'll be the one driving my parents' car to Vancouver - Cody's not going to get to. I drive! And I will be the tyranical dictator of where and when the car leaves to go anywhere! Mwahahaha!

Ehe... Anyway...

I want to download new anime. But I have yet to watch the anime that is piled up on my computer waiting to be watched. I'm not caught up on Kyou Kara Maou (almost 30 episodes behind) or Tsubasa Chronicles (at least 10 episodes behind), although I do want to be. Plus, I had wanted to do another AMV to 'It's the Fear' by Within Temptation, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen any time soon.

Oh well.

I think I'll watch a bunch of anime when I get home today, before I go work at the bookstore for the evening.

WOOT!

DRAGONLANCE ANIMATED MOVIE!!!!!!!

It's true!

This is like my oldest fandom. The very first thing I ever wrote fanfiction for (although it's not up anywhere, thank god). The series Sim and I spent hours making radio shows for, coming up with silly stories about, and just generally obsessing over way back in the days of grade 9.

I can't wait to see this! It's gonna be awesome!
