Give me a series, and I'll tell you about my "personal fanon" for that series. If you want to be more specific (character), that's fine as well.

This is going to seem really random... actually, it *is* really random, but yeah.

Anyone out there read Digimon Frontier fic? Can you rec me some Kouji/Takuya fic by any chance? I can't seem to find much of it on my own, and I'm starting to wonder if it's even out there.

Don't ask where this came from...
silverthunder: (Ken - Um... sure...)
I just bought and read the Princess Tutu manga. I did this despite numerous bad reviews from fans of the anime series, basically because of a combination of my love of the story and the fact that I had read two *good* reviews written by people who made some decent arguments.

And, yeah - spoilery stuff for Princess Tutu )

As the subject line says. Today marks the beginning of a brand new year. It's still got all the same old stuff as the old year, but thinking about it as something new makes it seem fresh. It's all good.

I haven't made a resolution this year... Last year I resolved to lose weight, I think. I have done that. I'm actually 40 pounds lighter than I was last year, although I am 20 pounds heavier than I was in the summer. Working on that still, but it's not a huge rush. At the moment, I am not gaining and if I don't do things like I did last night very often, I'll probably start gradually losing again. Not as dramatically as last year, but steady.

Cody and I had Sarah and Tylor over last night, and we all played Mario Party 8. That was fun, but the game was looooong. Cody and Tylor both got toasted. It was amusing.

Today Cody and I had brunch with my parents and two of my sisters, and then we went to see The Golden Compass. That movie was very good. I can't remember exact details about the book (I haven't read it in a while) but the movie seemed to have captured a lot of its essence. It was a little rushed, but that was to be expected. Cody still enjoyed it and was able to follow it, so I don't think it's necessary to have read the book, but it probably helps.

The fact that the movie ended before the end of the book was kind of annoying, but I can see why they did it if they wanted to keep the PG rating. I'll be interested to see how they begin the second movie (if they make it).

Gotta re-read the book series now... Hehe...

Anyway, Happy New Year's to everyone!

So... Christmas. It was good. I didn't get a chance to make this post for a while, because Christmas Day was packed and I got mildly sick on Boxing Day and didn't feel like doing anything beyond lying on the couch and watching TV (or watching Cody play games). Then yesterday I worked. And today I'm working too, but I'm on break now. So, yeah.

The major present this Christmas was the Wii I got for Cody. It was my big surprise, and it worked out great because as of about two weeks before Christmas, the Wii is sold out everywhere. I had two packages that were 'To Kelly and Cody from Santa' which I put under the tree at 7am on Christmas morning. One was the Wii and the other was an extra set of controllers plus two games: Twilight Princess and Mario Party 8. Both have been tested already.

Cody was surprised and very, very happy, so the gift was a success!

I also got some clothing (including a Ctrl Alt Del shirt from Cody), Trivial Pursuit 80s Version, a couple of pictures for our apartment, the sewing machine from my parents, the entire manga set of Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne and an assload of DVDs. The DVDs included: Princess Tutu complete set, Kyou Kara Maou season one, Sukisho complete set, This Ugly Yet Beautiful World complete set, Onegai Teacher complete set, the 2nd and 3rd Pirates of the Carribean movies, Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles (yes, the original cartoon, and yes, ALL of it), and Mummies Alive (the first four episodes).

I seriously will still be watching all of this when Christmas comes around next year. I already have a ton of stuff to finish watching. But it's still going to be a lot of fun. Hehe.

So far Cody and I have been making our way through Mummies Alive and Ninja Turtles. I love old cartoons...

I just have to get this off my chest, and I want to make sure that none of my friends end up with the same problem I did. Because it sucked.

This past February, I ordered a wig from this site. It seemed like a great site. I got in touch with the owner, who was really friendly, and she agreed to make me a wig for the convention I was attending in August. She even said she might have it by the end of July for me, which I thought was great. So I paid her in advance. Around $150 or so. I didn't expect to hear from her for a while since she had other orders, but no matter. She said she'd be able to do it for me, and I was pretty sure that if she found herself in over her head, she'd let me know so I could make other arrangements.

Naive, much? Yeah.

Every time I notice this person has updated her site, it annoys me. She is full of apologies for not getting wigs done due to real life problems, which is fine. I sympathize! Home life comes first, of course. But she has my email and my phone number! A short message explaining the situation would be common courtesy! Instead she is full of excuses about internet connection and no free time and being sick. And yeah, okay, those are good reasons for not getting wigs done. But unless you are terminally ill (and I don't believe this, because she's taking commissions again, which is not something a terminally ill patient would do), it's not difficult to let someone know that you're not going to be able to provide the service they PAID you for.

In short, no response to my (many) emails. No notice on when or if she ever plans to do my wig (or reimburse me, which is what I really want since I'm not wearing that costume ever again so the wig is worthless to me now). She says she is behind and now she's taking more orders.

So, yeah - don't be stupid like me. Don't order from her. You won't get your wig on time, that's for sure, and I have my doubts as to whether she's actually a legit seller. It seems an awful lot like I got swindled out of my money at this point.

Cody and I have put up our tiny fake Christmas tree and piled some of our presents beneath it. It feels like Christmas is coming up now...
silverthunder: (Sinbad and Jeanne - Mine)
So today, I finished reading the Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne manga.

Wow. Just... wow. I can't express how much I enjoyed it right now. The art, the story, the final battle at the end... the romance...

Oh man, the *romance*...

I loved it. The Chiaki/Maron dynamic (or Sinbad/Jeanne, however you want to think of it) was just *awesome*. So much romantic tension! You could cut it with a knife. And I could've died happy after the scene near the end where she declares her love for him and he just dives on her. That was beautifully done.

Also, Fin's story just about had me in tears! Fin! Access! They were such a cute pair, too... It was so sad, and so wonderful, I loved it!

Agh... I just don't have enough words to say how ridiculously happy I am after reading that series! It was just... so... I don't know, wonderful!

I'm going to start watching the anime next... I'm a little hesitant, though, because there are a lot of changes and some of the things I adored in the manga are gone in the anime. I wish I could just see everything that I just read in animated form. It'd be lovely...

Oh well, we'll see how it is soon enough.
silverthunder: (Syaoran and Sakura - Pure love)
Ehe... as if I haven't already ordered enough anime...

I just found a series call Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne - I read the first two volumes of the manga, and it's fantastic! So shoujo, so magical girl, so pretty... It's like a more grown up version of Saint Tail with a more exciting heroine and love interest. I'm so hooked!

The manga was licensed, so I might just decide to buy it at some point because it really is very good. I downloaded part of the anime series and I'm going to give it a try as well. If I like it as much as I like the manga, then I'll probably buy some burned DVDs (since the anime is not licensed).

Yay for new series!

... yay for spending more money...

Oh well, not like I can't afford it. And it's less expensive because there's no pretty box set that I can buy (although that kind of makes me sad). I might actually decide to hold out and wait to see if it's licensed. It's not like it's an inconvenience to watch it on my computer, after all.

Also, I really like Jeanne's costume... I'm thinking about trying to make it once I get my sewing machine (I'm about 99.9% sure that my parents got me one for Christmas). Cody's already agreed to dress up as her love interest if I want to do it.

I'm not sure if I can pull it off, but it might be fun to try!

For everyone upset about watching re-runs (ganked from [livejournal.com profile] third_requiem).

Honestly, I don't keep up with most TV shows, so I wouldn't notice if I was watching a re-run or something new. This strike doesn't effect me much, so seeing a video like this is definitely going to make me sympathetic to the writers. Especially since I have some idea how frustrating it would be to feel like your work is being showcased while you are being ripped off.

Does anyone have another viewpoint to bring into this? It looks like a pretty straightforward case of the writers being in the right and the studios being asswads, but I thought I'd throw the question out there since this video is all I know of the issue at the moment.

I cannot stop watching this. It's addicting.

Maybe because I love the song or maybe because the action makes it look like the anime series is finally getting over its long bought of filler and following the manga again.

Either way, it makes me want to pick up the anime again from where I left off.

I finished reading the Saint Tail manga! Hehe, it was so cute! It really did have CCSish vibes, although there were different characters and storylines. It had the feel of 'everything will definitely be all right', which was all it needed to make me nostalgic. And the romance was so cute and squishy! I especially loved the picture at the end of them in the wedding outfits. So sweet!

So yeah, that was very much worth searching for and buying. I'm glad I did, and I can't wait to watch the anime version (I have volumes 1, 2, and 5 so far and the rest are on the way)! But at the same time I want to finish watching Kaleido Star and find out what happens... that was a really good buy, too. I bought it on a whim, and it ended up being really engaging! I might have to go on ebay and hunt for the sequel series, because I'd definitely like to see it. But I will be good and wait until my next paycheck, at least. I still have ten episodes to go in the first series of it, and then I'll have Saint Tail to watch, too.

Speaking of things I need to buy... the official box set of Princess Tutu is being released in November. I'm totally going to have to get my hands on that. That series was really impressive, and had a great theme to it. I'd love to watch it all again, but I will wait until I have the DVD set in my hands and can watch it on our nice big 37" TV.

V is totally right when she tells me I'm a collector now. Haha!

Stuff I have bought recently (ie, after purchasing all of Saint Tail) includes: the official thinpak set of Orphen Revenge, the official thinpak set of D.N.Angel, volumes 12 and 13 and the movie for Fullmetal Alchemist, and a DVD set of the Card Captor Sakura official US subs. Hooray for having stuff with grammatically correct subtitles where everything is spelled right!

I already have wackysub versions of Orphen Revenge, D.N.Angel, and Card Captor Sakura. D.N.Angel has been spoken for, but I'm going to be trying to sell the other two off pretty cheap soon enough. I'll be offering them to people in town first to avoid shipping costs, but if anyone online is interested, leave a comment with your email address and I'll get back to you later on. I was thinking $10 per set ($20 for Card Captor Sakura since it's two sets altogether), but I'm totally negotiable and willing to go lower. I just need to make sure shipping is covered so I don't lose money.

Stuff!

silverthunder: (Daisuke - YES!)
A bunch of my Saint Tail stuff arrived in the mail today! There were five packages in total, but since some had more than one item, I actually received all seven volumes of the manga and the first DVD volume.

I am very happily reading the manga and will start on the DVDs, probably after I polish off Kaleido Star. I'm currently on episode 15, and it's a very cute series as well.

Yay for having stuff to read and watch!
silverthunder: (Shalnark - Still waiting for your call)
No DVDs or manga have showed up in the mail yet... boo... V is still waiting for her laptop as well, so at least I don't feel alone in being impatient all weekend. We went and saw 'The Kingdom' tonight, which was a terrible movie. The company was good, though. All in all, a good evening.

I'm spending more money now, yet again. I bought a bunch of things for Cody, for his birthday and Christmas. Can't wait to see his face when he sees what they are. I would say what I got him, but he sometimes pops in and reads my entries, so I'll keep it to myself for now. It's cool stuff and he'll like it. I'm excited.

Another thing I ordered is the last two volumes of Fullmetal Alchemist, plus the movie - which completes that collection. I also want to start replacing my wackysub sets with sets that have better subtitles. I recently ordered the Orphen Revenge perfect collection. I'm planning to get Card Captor Sakura and D.N.Angel as well, but I'm waiting to hear back from people on ebay before ordering them.

Of course I'll have to rewatch all of these series once I receive them.

This also means that my wackysub versions will become available, since I won't have any more use for them. I'll probably make another post once I'm for sure ordering the new versions (still not 100% yet), but I intend to sell them pretty cheap - I just need something to cover shipping, so I'd probably estimate around $10 per set or so. Is anyone interested?
silverthunder: (Himeno - Hee)
Well, I went and spent a lot of money on a new anime/manga series. I don't know now if it was really because I wanted the series *that* bad, or if I was just unable to resist the fact that it was out of print and hard to find. I couldn't find the whole series for download, and the first few episodes were on YouTube, but only a handful of the episodes after that were available, scattered all over the place. Both the manga and the anime had to be purchased through individual auctions from a bunch of different sellers. Either way, though, everything will be shipped pretty soon and I should have it all in a few weeks. I don't have any buyer's remorse (at least, not yet) because I'm glad I bought it and can't wait to have it all.

I'm very much looking forward to watching Saint Tail. The animation reminds me of Card Captor Sakura for some reason, and it's certainly got that same magical girl feel, which makes me really nostalgic. The thief-and-detective aspect reminds me a little bit of D.N.Angel - and I want to note for yaoi fans that in THIS series, the detective is the love interest of the thief (yes, I like Daisuke/Riku, but Satoshi/Daisuke does have a certain dangerous appeal to it). I can't wait to get into this show, because it looks cute and fun and light-hearted.

In other news, I've started going through the box set of Kaleido Star that I bought in Vancouver. It's really fun as well, in a different way. It's got a heroine with an undefeatable spirit, loyal and endearing friends, a rival who's probably not as bitchy as she seems, and a whole lot of 'try hard and you can achieve your dreams'. I'm enjoying it thoroughly. I will probably be finished with it by the time Saint Tail arrives, which is perfect timing in my opinion.

Hooray for good anime!

I find I've not been watching as many bishounen-centered series. I'm more on the lookout for female characters I like and can relate to now. It's an interesting change. I still wouldn't mind finding more hot guys to watch (and slash) in the future, though. The fanfic always seems to be better for some reason.
silverthunder: (Lavi - Ooh... sparkly...)
I have a request, if anyone is willing and able to help. I'm looking at a really cute looking (but old) magical girl series called Saint Tail. All that seems to be available for purchasing the series is separate DVDs, which I hate collecting (particularly since buying the whole series at once would put me over $200 - but I'd be way more willing to spend that amount on a nice box set than individual DVDs from individual sellers on ebay or something).

Does anyone know of any hard-to-find or out-of-print box sets? Or is there anyone selling the whole set of DVDs at once? Please tell me if you know anything!
