Exclusive Insanity

So I watched through all of Onegai Teacher (went through it almost as quickly as I went through Onegai Twins). I liked it! Of course, I kind of figured I would, since I liked Onegai Twins so much, but yeah. It was really cute.

I find it really interesting how both series deal with unconventional romantic situations. I had shied away from Onegai Teacher because the teacher/student dynamic disturbed me. I only gave Onegai Twins a try because Cody had included some scenes in an AMV he made and it looked kind of cute. And then I tried Onegai Teacher because I thought if Twins was good, it might be worth a try.

But when you watch either series... the relationships aren't disturbing. And they're not like the all-too-prettified unconventional relationships you see in Clamp manga. The characters' emotions seem real and endearing. They understand that they may not be doing the right thing, but the feelings are there and need to be dealt with. The situation is sticky, but somehow the characters feel that everything will be all right in the end.

I'm not saying either series is a masterpiece or anything close to one. They're full of fanservice and cutesy humor. But I thoroughly enjoyed them and had no problems relating to the characters and rooting for them through their problems. The romances were sincere and enjoyable to watch.

All in all, I like both series very much.

In other news, I also saw Stardust with V on Wednesday night. That was really cute, too! Nothing special, but cute and fun to watch. I wouldn't go see it again, but I enjoyed it. And we both needed the night out. It was good.

Tonight's supposed to be an evening out with the girls - still waiting to hear back from Jo, but at the very least I can probably do something with V. So that will be good.

We have Internet and cable in our new place!

Now we just need to get our assembly-required furniture set up and our table and chairs delivered... but that stuff can be put off.

Well, I am back at home (at work, actually) safe and sound after an exciting and stressful weekend.

For next year's con, our group has (finally) decided on a costume theme. We're going to try and put together a Slayers cosplay group. I'm dressing up as Filia, so we'll see how that goes. Should be interesting.

I was just looking through my friends list and I realized that there were a bunch on there whose names I don't recognize. Since I check my journal every day, this means that those individuals just don't post much any more. I'm wondering if their journals are abandoned and if I can trim my friends list down a bit.

So... I'm doing a cut. If you don't talk much and/or don't know me that well (in other words you think I might cut you) but still want to stay on my list, give me a quick comment here. If you end up getting cut, feel free to comment after the fact as well and I'll re-add you.

Also, since I noticed there are a few people who have friended me when I haven't friended them, if you want to be in on the boring details of my every day life, comment. If you're okay with just the fan/random/non-personal posts, then stay as you are since those are public.

For anyone who might have some vague glimor of hope that LJ is actually trying to do the right thing in all their stupidity, I'd like to direct your attention to this.

So, in summary, it is okay to encourage girls to starve themselves but not okay to post pictures/fiction of imaginary people who may or may not be underage having sex.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong with this picture?

Well, most people have an opinion about the recent unpleasantness with LJ, so I thought I'd toss mine out there. It's looking pretty obvious right now that they're targeting aspects of fandom that they don't like and not-so-quietly removing them from the premises. Much like a private party. Which doesn't work so well for the concept of journals.

Personally, I think that I probably don't have anything to worry about. I don't post fanfics or art on this journal. That's what my GreatestJournal has always been for. And I can't kid myself that my life is in any way exciting enough to get me banned.

However, this doesn't mean that I don't have friends who *do* have a chance of being banned. And that is really disquieting. Honestly, if there was an easy way to do it and keep all of my friends intact and just proceed as usual, I'd probably move.

But, bottom line is that there isn't. If we migrate, everyone on my friends list is going to have a different idea of where they want to migrate to. They'll scatter, and I'll have to join 5 different journaling sites to keep track of them. And to be perfectly honest, I wouldn't be able to keep up with 5 different journaling sites. Right now I have 2 and I neglect my GJ like crazy.

If things get really bad, then I probably will be forced to move. A lot of people now are withdrawing their paid accounts (and thus, their monetary support) from LJ. There's a possibility that LJ will go under. But we won't know for sure until it happens.

For now, I'm staying. I don't like it, but I'm staying. I've invested too much time in this journal, and I can't bring myself to jump ship and abandon it just yet. I really hate LJ and 6A and their new "rules" but I consider myself stuck here for the time being.

I work late today, so I amused myself by checking out Potter wank courtesy of a link from sailormac. It's amazing how people will complain when it involves their precious ships. The gay/straight thing is just a ridiculous argument at this point. Complaining that the author is a homophobe because she didn't include any gay pairings is like someone reading a yaoi fanfic and complaining that the author hates straight people because he/she didn't include any het pairings.

Well, I got a bit of a surprise today. Totally unexpected.

My mother just dropped off my mail to me at work, and there was a package from Geneon Entertainment. I'm thinking 'wha?' because first of all, I haven't ordered anything recently, and second... *Geneon*? What would I order from them?

Anyway, I opened it up and it's a DVD. With a note. Saying 'You have been nominated to receive a free copy of 'Fighting Spirit (aka Hajime no Ippo)' by your friend Sailor Mac' (or something along those lines).

My reaction was something like '... I was?'

So... yeah. I have a new DVD. Thank you, sailormac! I'm still a little dazed and confused but hey, that's really cool. I'm not sure how that system works, but it seems very generous to send a complimentary copy of a 5-episode DVD to someone who hasn't even purchased anything from them.
