So I watched through all of Onegai Teacher (went through it almost as quickly as I went through Onegai Twins). I liked it! Of course, I kind of figured I would, since I liked Onegai Twins so much, but yeah. It was really cute.

I find it really interesting how both series deal with unconventional romantic situations. I had shied away from Onegai Teacher because the teacher/student dynamic disturbed me. I only gave Onegai Twins a try because Cody had included some scenes in an AMV he made and it looked kind of cute. And then I tried Onegai Teacher because I thought if Twins was good, it might be worth a try.

But when you watch either series... the relationships aren't disturbing. And they're not like the all-too-prettified unconventional relationships you see in Clamp manga. The characters' emotions seem real and endearing. They understand that they may not be doing the right thing, but the feelings are there and need to be dealt with. The situation is sticky, but somehow the characters feel that everything will be all right in the end.

I'm not saying either series is a masterpiece or anything close to one. They're full of fanservice and cutesy humor. But I thoroughly enjoyed them and had no problems relating to the characters and rooting for them through their problems. The romances were sincere and enjoyable to watch.

All in all, I like both series very much.

In other news, I also saw Stardust with V on Wednesday night. That was really cute, too! Nothing special, but cute and fun to watch. I wouldn't go see it again, but I enjoyed it. And we both needed the night out. It was good.

Tonight's supposed to be an evening out with the girls - still waiting to hear back from Jo, but at the very least I can probably do something with V. So that will be good.

We have Internet and cable in our new place!

Now we just need to get our assembly-required furniture set up and our table and chairs delivered... but that stuff can be put off.

I am online again!

Well, I am back at home (at work, actually) safe and sound after an exciting and stressful weekend.

Anime Evolution details - cut for length )

For next year's con, our group has (finally) decided on a costume theme. We're going to try and put together a Slayers cosplay group. I'm dressing up as Filia, so we'll see how that goes. Should be interesting.
silverthunder: (Himeno - Hee)
Well, tomorrow morning (very early), Cody and I are heading off to Anime Evolution. Or rather, to Vancouver, since AE doesn't start until Friday.

Nothing from the girl who was going to make my wig. I'll be claiming my money back after our trip (yay paypal!) but for now, I managed to find a cheap wig at Value Village with a somewhat similar style. It was blonde, but I've dyed it bright pink with hairspray. It's the wrong shade and not exactly the right style, but I will get by.

No custom wig maker is going to ruin my costume by not bothering to tell me I wouldn't have a wig on time! Take that!

In any case, we'll be back Sunday night (probably late Sunday night) and then I work at 2pm on Monday. Should be fun.

I'll probably have updates when I get back, but I doubt I'll be able to keep up with entries, so if something fun (or evil) happens while I'm gone and you want me to hear about it, toss me a comment. I might get a chance to check LJ at the hotel, though... depends on how the trip goes.

Wish my car luck on its first road trip with me! It's been awesome on the highway into town, so I'm pretty sure it'll be fine. I have to check the oil tomorrow morning to make sure it's got enough, though.

I was just looking through my friends list and I realized that there were a bunch on there whose names I don't recognize. Since I check my journal every day, this means that those individuals just don't post much any more. I'm wondering if their journals are abandoned and if I can trim my friends list down a bit.

So... I'm doing a cut. If you don't talk much and/or don't know me that well (in other words you think I might cut you) but still want to stay on my list, give me a quick comment here. If you end up getting cut, feel free to comment after the fact as well and I'll re-add you.

Also, since I noticed there are a few people who have friended me when I haven't friended them, if you want to be in on the boring details of my every day life, comment. If you're okay with just the fan/random/non-personal posts, then stay as you are since those are public.

So, I have some journals in other places just in case LJ goes buh-bye. I don't know where everyone else is, so please add me if you have journals on the same sites (or comment with your username so I can add you):

The IJ journal is just a placeholder. The GJ journal is my writing journal (not that I update it much these days). But that might change. You never know. Just getting ready for the worst.
silverthunder: (Menori - So not impressed)
For anyone who might have some vague glimor of hope that LJ is actually trying to do the right thing in all their stupidity, I'd like to direct your attention to this.

So, in summary, it is okay to encourage girls to starve themselves but not okay to post pictures/fiction of imaginary people who may or may not be underage having sex.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong with this picture?

NOTE: I don't necessarily support this user's methods - I'm just commenting on LJ's hypocricy.

Nothing new about that, though.

Anyway, if you want to check out the pics, they can be found here. Enjoy!

EDIT: Also, I took some quick pics of my car! They can be found here.

I just got a call while I was at work (checked my voicemail on my break) and Cody and I have an apartment to move into for September!

It's the one we had as our first choice - $625 per month and a 5 minute walk from work. The owner has to confirm with the girl that she's actually moving out (her parents had arranged for her to stay until the end of August), but he's almost 100% sure that it's ours if we want it. He'll be calling us on Tuesday to make plans for us to come in and look at it.

Holy crap, the last couple of days have been full of fantastic!!!
silverthunder: (Orphen - Stop the world)
Well, most people have an opinion about the recent unpleasantness with LJ, so I thought I'd toss mine out there. It's looking pretty obvious right now that they're targeting aspects of fandom that they don't like and not-so-quietly removing them from the premises. Much like a private party. Which doesn't work so well for the concept of journals.

Personally, I think that I probably don't have anything to worry about. I don't post fanfics or art on this journal. That's what my GreatestJournal has always been for. And I can't kid myself that my life is in any way exciting enough to get me banned.

However, this doesn't mean that I don't have friends who *do* have a chance of being banned. And that is really disquieting. Honestly, if there was an easy way to do it and keep all of my friends intact and just proceed as usual, I'd probably move.

But, bottom line is that there isn't. If we migrate, everyone on my friends list is going to have a different idea of where they want to migrate to. They'll scatter, and I'll have to join 5 different journaling sites to keep track of them. And to be perfectly honest, I wouldn't be able to keep up with 5 different journaling sites. Right now I have 2 and I neglect my GJ like crazy.

If things get really bad, then I probably will be forced to move. A lot of people now are withdrawing their paid accounts (and thus, their monetary support) from LJ. There's a possibility that LJ will go under. But we won't know for sure until it happens.

For now, I'm staying. I don't like it, but I'm staying. I've invested too much time in this journal, and I can't bring myself to jump ship and abandon it just yet. I really hate LJ and 6A and their new "rules" but I consider myself stuck here for the time being.

Car!

Aug. 4th, 2007 10:22 am
silverthunder: (Bisuke - SQUEE!)
I just bought a car yesterday! I'm excited because it's the first car that I've ever owned and had entirely in my name.

It's a 1990 Honda Accord, which I bought for $3,700 from a lady who had just purchased a new car for herself. There are a *lot* of kilometers on it and it needs to be wet sanded and have a new clear coat put on the hood, but it has a bunch of new things just put in and I had Cody's dad give it a thorough check. He gave it the ok, so I bought it and now it's mine! It's really smooth to drive, has a brand new stereo, working air conditioner, a working sunroof, power locks and windows, and it looks great inside and out. There's also tons of trunk space (which is good because I intend to take it to AE).

I don't know how long the ad will be up for, but it has pictures and I haven't taken any myself yet, so here it is for those who want a look.

In other happy news, I have finished my costume! But I am really concerned about whether or not I'll have the wig, as the comissioner I got to do it hasn't contacted me yet and she won't be sending it out until she sends me pictures and I approve it. I've emailed her and am still waiting for a response. Less than 2 weeks to AE now, which is cutting it really close. I'm really worried that I'm going to have no wig to go with my costume, which will suck royally after all that work I put into it.

.. but I have my own car! So yay!
silverthunder: (Ken - Um... sure...)
I work late today, so I amused myself by checking out Potter wank courtesy of a link from [livejournal.com profile] sailormac. It's amazing how people will complain when it involves their precious ships. The gay/straight thing is just a ridiculous argument at this point. Complaining that the author is a homophobe because she didn't include any gay pairings is like someone reading a yaoi fanfic and complaining that the author hates straight people because he/she didn't include any het pairings.

That aside...

Courtesy of a link provided by [livejournal.com profile] herongale, I made myself a profile and a list of anime I've watched, am watching, or intend to watch - check it out here. And then sign up, make your own list, and add me as a friend. Hehe.

So yeah, I bought and read the final Harry Potter book.

Well, I got a bit of a surprise today. Totally unexpected.

My mother just dropped off my mail to me at work, and there was a package from Geneon Entertainment. I'm thinking 'wha?' because first of all, I haven't ordered anything recently, and second... *Geneon*? What would I order from them?

Anyway, I opened it up and it's a DVD. With a note. Saying 'You have been nominated to receive a free copy of 'Fighting Spirit (aka Hajime no Ippo)' by your friend Sailor Mac' (or something along those lines).

My reaction was something like '... I was?'

So... yeah. I have a new DVD. Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] sailormac! I'm still a little dazed and confused but hey, that's really cool. I'm not sure how that system works, but it seems very generous to send a complimentary copy of a 5-episode DVD to someone who hasn't even purchased anything from them.

Wow.

Well, I finally got pictures of my Victoria trip up... you can view them here.

1. Leave me a comment saying that you want me to ask you 5 questions.
2. I respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better. If I already know you well, expect the questions may be a little more intimate.
3. You will update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview ask someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be asked, you will ask them five questions.

silverthunder: (Bell - Um... WTF?)
I realize most people on my friends list don't care any more, but umm, what?

The idea that any kind of voting system for allowing "questionable content" on LJ would work is just so ridiculous it cannot be expressed in words. Does this guy not know the definition of 'journal'? And what about minorities with interests that some would definie as questionable? They're not breaking any laws by talking about the things they like, but if a group of twats who didn't like it got together, they could technically be "voted out".

Besides that, who would decide which content was questionable enough to deserve a vote? There's a lot of grey area in this issue.
