OMG APARTMENT
Aug. 5th, 2007 02:20 pmI just got a call while I was at work (checked my voicemail on my break) and Cody and I have an apartment to move into for September!
It's the one we had as our first choice - $625 per month and a 5 minute walk from work. The owner has to confirm with the girl that she's actually moving out (her parents had arranged for her to stay until the end of August), but he's almost 100% sure that it's ours if we want it. He'll be calling us on Tuesday to make plans for us to come in and look at it.
Holy crap, the last couple of days have been full of fantastic!!!

Recent LJ Outrage
Aug. 5th, 2007 09:45 amWell, most people have an opinion about the recent unpleasantness with LJ, so I thought I'd toss mine out there. It's looking pretty obvious right now that they're targeting aspects of fandom that they don't like and not-so-quietly removing them from the premises. Much like a private party. Which doesn't work so well for the concept of journals.
Personally, I think that I probably don't have anything to worry about. I don't post fanfics or art on this journal. That's what my GreatestJournal has always been for. And I can't kid myself that my life is in any way exciting enough to get me banned.
However, this doesn't mean that I don't have friends who *do* have a chance of being banned. And that is really disquieting. Honestly, if there was an easy way to do it and keep all of my friends intact and just proceed as usual, I'd probably move.
But, bottom line is that there isn't. If we migrate, everyone on my friends list is going to have a different idea of where they want to migrate to. They'll scatter, and I'll have to join 5 different journaling sites to keep track of them. And to be perfectly honest, I wouldn't be able to keep up with 5 different journaling sites. Right now I have 2 and I neglect my GJ like crazy.
If things get really bad, then I probably will be forced to move. A lot of people now are withdrawing their paid accounts (and thus, their monetary support) from LJ. There's a possibility that LJ will go under. But we won't know for sure until it happens.
For now, I'm staying. I don't like it, but I'm staying. I've invested too much time in this journal, and I can't bring myself to jump ship and abandon it just yet. I really hate LJ and 6A and their new "rules" but I consider myself stuck here for the time being.

I just bought a car yesterday! I'm excited because it's the first car that I've ever owned and had entirely in my name.
It's a 1990 Honda Accord, which I bought for $3,700 from a lady who had just purchased a new car for herself. There are a *lot* of kilometers on it and it needs to be wet sanded and have a new clear coat put on the hood, but it has a bunch of new things just put in and I had Cody's dad give it a thorough check. He gave it the ok, so I bought it and now it's mine! It's really smooth to drive, has a brand new stereo, working air conditioner, a working sunroof, power locks and windows, and it looks great inside and out. There's also tons of trunk space (which is good because I intend to take it to AE).
I don't know how long the ad will be up for, but it has pictures and I haven't taken any myself yet, so here it is for those who want a look.
In other happy news, I have finished my costume! But I am really concerned about whether or not I'll have the wig, as the comissioner I got to do it hasn't contacted me yet and she won't be sending it out until she sends me pictures and I approve it. I've emailed her and am still waiting for a response. Less than 2 weeks to AE now, which is cutting it really close. I'm really worried that I'm going to have no wig to go with my costume, which will suck royally after all that work I put into it.
.. but I have my own car! So yay!

Aug. 1st, 2007 09:06 amI work late today, so I amused myself by checking out Potter wank courtesy of a link from
sailormac. It's amazing how people will complain when it involves their precious ships. The gay/straight thing is just a ridiculous argument at this point. Complaining that the author is a homophobe because she didn't include any gay pairings is like someone reading a yaoi fanfic and complaining that the author hates straight people because he/she didn't include any het pairings.
That aside...
Courtesy of a link provided by
herongale, I made myself a profile and a list of anime I've watched, am watching, or intend to watch - check it out here. And then sign up, make your own list, and add me as a friend. Hehe.

Jul. 16th, 2007 02:11 pmWell, I got a bit of a surprise today. Totally unexpected.
My mother just dropped off my mail to me at work, and there was a package from Geneon Entertainment. I'm thinking 'wha?' because first of all, I haven't ordered anything recently, and second... *Geneon*? What would I order from them?
Anyway, I opened it up and it's a DVD. With a note. Saying 'You have been nominated to receive a free copy of 'Fighting Spirit (aka Hajime no Ippo)' by your friend Sailor Mac' (or something along those lines).
My reaction was something like '... I was?'
So... yeah. I have a new DVD. Thank you,
sailormac! I'm still a little dazed and confused but hey, that's really cool. I'm not sure how that system works, but it seems very generous to send a complimentary copy of a 5-episode DVD to someone who hasn't even purchased anything from them.
Wow.

1. Leave me a comment saying that you want me to ask you 5 questions.
2. I respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better. If I already know you well, expect the questions may be a little more intimate.
3. You will update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview ask someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be asked, you will ask them five questions.

I realize most people on my friends list don't care any more, but umm, what?
The idea that any kind of voting system for allowing "questionable content" on LJ would work is just so ridiculous it cannot be expressed in words. Does this guy not know the definition of 'journal'? And what about minorities with interests that some would definie as questionable? They're not breaking any laws by talking about the things they like, but if a group of twats who didn't like it got together, they could technically be "voted out".
Besides that, who would decide which content was questionable enough to deserve a vote? There's a lot of grey area in this issue.

Well, it looks like LJ is issuing a public apology and restoring journals that were removed in error. I haven't checked around to see which those include and which have stayed suspended, but it's a start.
NOTE: Skip to the last page and look at
kazahaya's list of questions that still need to be addressed. Those really do seem fair, don't they? I wonder if LJ will provide answers.

Edit: More
Apparently it's not only fandom journals that are being targeted here. Journals designed as help and support for survivors of child abuse were also deleted with no warning, and for no good reason. Thus far, no one is admitting to the error. LJ blames these "Warriors of Innocense" and they blame LJ.
I'd say they're all idiots. Even all the "Warriors of Innocense" did was complain that LJ was hosting 'content containing pedoplia and incest' on their site, all you've done by stirring up this fuss is alert the real predators and make it harder for more intelligent and better organized groups to catch them. Even if all LJ did was delete the journals that the "Warriors of Innocense" pointed out, they didn't bother to check and see exactly what was on those journals, and that's ridiculous.
It reminds me of the big fanfiction.net mess years ago, only worse. A huge portion of the journals deleted were completely innocent. Lolita fashion communities? RPG villain journals? Support groups for survivors?
That blows me away. And the worst part is that LJ is not willing to admit that they've made a mistake in deleting the journals. How can you justify that? Seriously.

Reviews and stuff
May. 28th, 2007 08:38 amI love this song. And the anime that goes with it. Thanks to
herongale for bringing it to my attention (I find most of the series she recs are fantastic).
Since today is a day off for me, I'm going to try and do some reviews for a bunch of things I've finished watching but haven't had time to set my thoughts down for.
( The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya )
( Zettai Shounen )
( Onegai Twins )
( Princess Tutu )
( Pretear )
( Pirates of the Carribean: At World's End )
And... I think that's it for reviews. For now.

His Dark Materials - My Daemon
May. 4th, 2007 08:50 amSeen everywhere, but picked up first from
hinotori. I so can't wait for this movie.

Randomness!
Apr. 27th, 2007 11:53 amI'm seriously contemplating giving this Digimon fanfic a title, HTMLing it up, and posting it on FF.net a chapter at a time, with no warnings in the description about pairings, just to see if anyone flames me when they find out what's really going on.
Magical boy!
Apr. 5th, 2007 11:27 amAfter giving the subject some thought, I came to the conclusion that a proper magical boy in the style of most magical girls was really necessary. So, even though I'm not the greatest artist, I decided to draw one. It was kind of fun.
