Back from Hawaii! Soooo much laundry to do. And cleaning. Haven't even picked the cat up from my parents' house yet. Agh.

But we had a great time, and that's the important thing! Lots of hanging around having fun. And I even got to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] insaneneko! I never get to meet online friends! I believe she is the first! It was awesome.

Oh yes, and...

SO FREAKIN' EXCITED FOR AVATAR: LEGEND OF KORRA!!!

I mean, come on, it's a female Avatar, and she looks badass! I'm so psyched! This cannot come out fast enough.

Slightly more info. And also, here.

YAY!!!!

So, the wedding went off without a hitch - it was freakin' fantastic! I'll have more details later, as we're currently IN HAWAII!!!!

The weather is gorgeous here... Can't wait to hit the beach!
silverthunder: (Kelly and Cody - <3)
The weather is gorgeous today. I am feeling great. Everyone around me is in a good mood.

I will be getting married this afternoon!
silverthunder: (Zuko and Mai - Actually kind of like you)
[livejournal.com profile] yukinoomoni just made the best three-part post ever on why the ATLA episode 'The Beach' is full of win and Mai/Zuko is awesome, complete with screenshots and witty commentary. I just had to link it.

Part One
Part Two
Part Three

Excellent.

Today is my last day of work before the wedding! Cody and I got the music all wrapped up and ready to go last night, and despite the last minute cancellations and additions, I think we're pretty final in terms of a wedding guest list.

The list of remaining tasks:

- Get hair trimmed (right after work today)
- Pack for honeymoon (tonight)
- Set up and decorate reception site (will begin tomorrow when rental items are delivered)
- Manicure - me / Pedicures - bridesmaids (Friday noon)
- Set up and decorate ceremony site (will begin Friday when rental items are delivered)

Other than that, it's all rehearsal and wedding day stuff. Woo!
silverthunder: (May)
Cody and I finished watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood last week.

Thoughts )
silverthunder: (Himeno - Gasp!)
My wedding is this Saturday.

Seriously.

My wedding. This Saturday.

Less than a week.

OMGHOLYCRAP!!!
silverthunder: (Aang and Toph - LOL)
This is hilarious.

And better than the Last Airbender movie. I was more entertained watching these guys, anyway. I liked how they interpreted that Earthbender move-one-rock dance (that seriously has become my favorite lolworthy moment of the movie).
silverthunder: (Aang and Toph - LOL)
So, anyone really wishing they could see the Last Airbender movie just for the lolz but not wanting to sit through the whole thing and have to pay for it?

Check out some of the worst best scenes here.

My favorite is the multi-person Earthbending dance routine to move one teeny little rock. Although Katara pushing the Firebender and then immediately looking away from him like "naw, no way you'd retaliate or anything..." is pretty good too.
silverthunder: (Zuko - ...ew)
So I saw the Last Airbender movie last night.

...

Yeah. It sucked just as much as everyone said it did. Possibly more. I can't get over the level of suckage of this movie. If I wasn't already a fan of the series, I still would've thought the movie was bad. As a fan of the series, though, it's worse than bad - it's hideous.

I don't even have words for just HOW bad this movie was.

Oh, wait - yes, I do )

I hope to god the next two movies aren't made. I don't even want to contemplate what they might do to Toph, Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee.

Happy Canada Day to all fellow Canadians! I am totally meeting up with friends and stealing Cody away from his shift for a lunch break. Woo!

BBQ last night at [livejournal.com profile] deitysend's place. It kicked ass!

Last Airbender tomorrow... Whatever teeny tiny hopes I had for the movie are pretty well gone after reading a few reviews from people who have seen it already. Roger Ebert gave it half a star, and rotten tomatoes gave it 7% (even Twilight got 50%, so that's pretty damn bad). And, of course, racefail and genderfail abound!

God, this is going to suck. Oh well, I'll be with friends. It'll be fun.

ETA: If you ignore the beginning scene with the girls in cosplay, this video pretty much spells out the ATLA fan reaction I'm seeing on the 'net for the movie.

Hehe

My news from last week: [livejournal.com profile] dustwing is allowing me to help judge a fanfic contest! I hope we get a lot of entries. It ends on July 15th. I'm pretty confidant I can handle it; it'll be a nice break from wedding stuff.

I'm psyched! I've never judged a contest before; this will be fun!

On the controversial subject of the casting of the Last Airbender movie... [livejournal.com profile] yukinoomoni made a good post on the subject here.

She links to an article that is amazingly well-written and which I think everyone should read. It presents a very compelling case for not seeing the movie. However, there are a lot of points brought up in the comments on [livejournal.com profile] yukinoomoni's post that are fairly compelling as well. I think it's worth taking note of those.

I don't have a firm stance on this issue: I hate the racism in the casting and don't want to support it. However, I love ATLA and want to support it. And if the movie flops, you can be fairly sure it will hurt the potential further development of the animated series.

In the end, I'm going to see the movie, and I'd be lying if I said it wasn't mainly because I really just want to see it. You can think whatever you like about me for making that decision.

Comment on this post and I will name a lady in the realm of fiction. Give at least 5 reasons why she is awesome on your own journal and spread the love.

Tear Grant )

I need to see the rest of this series so I can tell if I'm actually right with these (they're just my impressions based on the first 11 episodes). Stupid Cody and his refusing to watch the rest of the anime until he's finished the game... I should just watch the rest without him and not let him know.
silverthunder: (Avatar - Group Hug)
Okay. This TV spot makes me feel slightly better about the Last Airbender movie.

I still dislike Sokka's and Katara's actors and continue to be pessimistic about the movie's chances of success. I don't like the race-fail either. But the end scene of this trailer at least felt a little like the original show.

And Momo looks okay!
silverthunder: (Edward and Alphonse - Adopt us)
So yesterday I was playing some of the Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood opening videos (I haven't actually watched most of the series yet, I just love opening videos) and Cody commented that since the anime is just about finished now, maybe we should watch it.

Cody never got all the way through the first FMA anime. He lost interest somewhere in there (not sure where, and he doesn't even remember). He was interested in the new one because it moves quicker and has more humor (although coming from the guy who re-watched Dragonball Z all the way through, I find the 'it moves quicker' part ironic). I like it because it follows the manga. I liked the first one too (that's kind of obvious, seeing as how I own all the DVDs). But I'm glad this one exists because I get to see Ling animated. Ling is highly amusing.

We got as far as episode 15 last night (started with episode 4, since we'd watched the first three a while back). That means Ling and May made their first appearance. Hee!

I'm looking forward to more.

I just read the very last chapter of Fullmetal Alchemist.

OMG. Seriously, just... omg. Wow.

That was AWESOME. It was - it was perfect.

SPOILERS )

I will never get over how awesome this series is. Never. It is incredible.
silverthunder: (Aang and Katara - Fly away with me)
So, I recently finished reading the five-book series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Which was pretty good.

Thoughts )

All in all, this series was very fun to read. I'm glad I picked them up, and I recommend anyone who hasn't done so to... well... do so.
silverthunder: (Toph - You are so going down)
So, I recently came across this interesting article on Disney princesses and feminism, aimed most specifically at the recently released 'Princess and the Frog' film, and wanted to share it.

Here: http://mendthiscrack.wordpress.com/2010/03/24/disney-princesses-and-feminism/

A lot of good points in this article; it hits the nail on the head in a lot of ways. I haven't yet seen 'The Princess and the Frog', and this isn't the first review to show a lack of enthusiasm for the film, but this is the first I've seen that points out, in depth, what's wrong with it.

If I ever do see it, it probably won't be in a situation where I made the decision ahead of time to pick it up and watch it.
silverthunder: (Kelly and Cody - <3)
I know we never took pictures of our house ('cause I'm lazy), but Cody did take pictures of our entertainment centre and the "library" - so here they are.

The manga

The anime

The games

The entertainment centre

Awesome, huh?

On an unrelated note, my ATLA artbook came in two days ago! I have gone through it all and it is AWESOME. I recommend all fans pick up a copy, because it was so worth the money and the wait!
